OMG! I'm so excited with my new SRL camera! It's a Nikon D3100 kit with a 18-55mm lens. Does anyone else has an SLR camera? Any Nikon users can share which lens are good, maybe post sample pictures? Thanks :D

I've got a Pentax K200D, bog-standard lens is the same: 18-55mm. It's a fairly good lens for a good range of photos.

What are you looking at shooting? Close-ups, portraits, still life, landscape?

What do you want to photograph? How serious do you want to go?

The answer of those question is the answer which kind of lenses you might need. I for example go quite serious in my photography and prefer very light sensitive lenses (you notice them by a low f-stop number. Like f1.8-f2.8 for example). However, those are expensive...
To save a little money you can buy Tamron or Sigma lenses, but make sure you really buy for Nikon. Not that you end up with a Sigma lense made for Canon camera....

I have three Nikon DSLRs each with the standard kit lenses - 18-55mmm and 55-200mm plus my favourite lens bought seperately, my 50mm f1.4.

Of my kit lenses my favourite is probably the 55-200mm because I shoot a lot of reportage style portraits (done some second shooting at weddings and I'm photographer for a medieval society where I can't safely get very close to the action).

But of course my true love is my 50mm f1.4 because the images it's capable of capturing in low light situations just blow me away sometimes. If you get the ISO/White Balance/etc right the images have a lovely quality. My next lens will hopefully be a 35mm f1.5.

I have a few select images up on DeviantArt desiredmissdemeanor.deviantart.com . . . and some of them are up on my seldom updated facebook fan page www.facebook.com#!/pages/Laura-King-Photography/108147035887931

Most of my images go up on my personal facebook page because I'm very rarely shooting for anyone other than myself these days (I should really remedy that). I hope you enjoy your new camera and maybe keep us updated with some of your images?
