I'm applying to transfer in the fall, and I think I'm only applying to 3 schools:
Ithaca College
D'Youville College
University of Scranton
There are a couple more schools that I might apply to, but I haven't decided yet. | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By KeepOnSingin Comments: 11013, member since Sun Dec 19, 2004On Mon Dec 12, 2011 12:02 PM
Well Scranton told me today that they're expecting no room in the fall for the program I want, so I'm thinking I should add at least 1 or 2 more schools to my list.
I'll probably apply to Misericordia University, Utica College and maybe a few more. | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By Natz2 Comments: 662, member since Thu Oct 02, 2003On Tue Dec 13, 2011 05:51 AM
I'm not in America but I am applying for post graduate courses.
So far I'm applying to
Cumbria
Bangor
Oxford(different university to the famous one)
Essex
Leeds
Sheffield
Possibly Derby as I haven't visited it.
Keele
Hope
Salford.
As you cam see I have a fun list to write essays for and write all the application forms out. | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By kay Comments: 1471, member since Sun Aug 12, 2007On Sat Dec 17, 2011 01:34 AM
I'M IN!!!! UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN!!! This is so exciting! It's one of my top choices so I was ecstatic when I got the email. I applied Early Action, so it's not binding, which means I will be using this winter break to finish up more my apps But it's such an awesome feeling knowing that I got in somewhere I could really see myself at! | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By DefyingGravity Comments: 4839, member since Sun Jan 19, 2003On Sat Dec 17, 2011 01:39 AM
^ kay, if you're ever around UCLA, hit me up! Both iliah and I go there and we'd totally be down for a sushi/coffee date If you have any questions about Cal or NYU, I went to both, too ![:] :]](http://dancenet.s3.amazonaws.com/images/blue/emoticons/joy.gif) | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By kay Comments: 1471, member since Sun Aug 12, 2007On Mon Dec 19, 2011 06:35 PM
^ That would be SO awesome!
Yep, working on NYU app...hmm..kind of at a loss for words right now. I really want to go there, but I just can't seem to get my thoughts in writing. Plus, it's only 1500 characters so it's really constricting. UGH! | |

I've applied/am applying to:
Barnard
Duke
Skidmore
Mercyhurst
Muhlenberg
University of South Carolina
Butler
I found out I've been accepted to USC's honors program and Butler. I'm planning on being a dance and psychology double major (though the psych is subject to change) so I have auditions in January and February for USC, Mercyhurst and Butler. I hope I get in at least one of those places for dance! | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By SaraTheGrouch Comments: 8107, member since Thu Apr 17, 2003On Mon Dec 26, 2011 09:16 PM
I've never heard of Butler, but USC is on SUCH a different level than Duke, Barnard, and the like. If you're on an ivy level, don't sell yourself short! And I say this as someone who applied to and was accepted to USC (but didnt go.) | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By kbballet Comments: 138, member since Mon Jul 21, 2008On Tue Dec 27, 2011 06:02 PM
kay,
First off, congrats!. Second, I go to Michigan so if you have any questions about the university, feel free to message me, whether you end up here or not. | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By Dancing4everr Comments: 93, member since Tue Jun 16, 2009On Thu Dec 29, 2011 09:17 PM
Wooooooo guys I got into Claremont Mckenna early decision with a large scholarship so I'm definitely going to go there!!! I'm so happy Just thought I would share. I'm still slightly sad that I won't get to apply to Columbia, my second choice, but there's always grad school, right? | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By Cadbury_Eater Comments: 7192, member since Sun Jan 05, 2003On Fri Dec 30, 2011 03:09 AM
Very different to where I live, how the system works etc. But
For me, I don't have my heart set on a particular university. I feel they all have different things to offer, but I'd love to go to one of the city ones as a change from my rural upbringing. It's so exciting
With our application, we just put courses at universities and then we find out if we get places when the cut offs are done. Some courses have additional criteria with applications to schools and that, but most of it is just ATAR based. (Think A level results or GPA/SAT/ACT based for Amercians. | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By Maxwell Comments: 1475, member since Sat Oct 27, 2007On Sat Dec 31, 2011 05:09 PM
Congratulations kay, Dancing4ever, and hpballerina! It feels so good to know you're in somewhere, especially when you know you're going there.
Cadbury-yes, it seems like it is pretty different over there (you're in Australia, correct?)A lot of US schools are putting significantly less emphasis on SAT/ACT/other testing things, and a few schools are making the big standardized tests optional.
So, extreme change of plans for me: I'm going to Mary Baldwin, the school that I applied to on a whim when they sent me a free application. This has all come as a surprise (I never even considered them before 2 months ago, when I got the information), but they were very generous with the scholarship offer, so I went on an overnight visit there and just fell in love with the school, the town, the other students-everything.
Which means that I'm done with apps! Yay! | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By Moonlitefairy06 Comments: 6240, member since Fri Apr 16, 2004On Sat Dec 31, 2011 08:07 PM
Congrats! I ended up going to a school I wasn't really interested in at all, just because my mom told me to apply. Best thing that ever happened to me. | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By kay Comments: 1471, member since Sun Aug 12, 2007On Mon Jan 02, 2012 02:01 PM
Thanks Maxwell! Congrats to you too!! That's a great choice
Dancing4everr-congrats on Claremont!! I'm actually finishing up that app right now (Yes...the due date is today. I've procrastinated WAY too much).
kbballet- Thank you! I will pm you if I have any Q's! | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By djchara Comments: 698, member since Tue Jan 12, 2010On Thu Jan 05, 2012 02:02 PM
Wow, congrats everyone on your acceptances so far!! That's amazing!
I got deferred from Yale, no surprises. I'm not really disappointed because a) it's freaking YALE, b) at least they didn't hate me enough to deny me, and c) I still have a chance to get in (although it's a teeny one the RD acceptance rate is 5%...).
I haven't heard back from any others yet--they all come out at the end of March, beginning of April, except UVA. UVA's officially comes out the Jan. 31st, but... I got nominaed by my school to apply for the UVA Jefferson scholarship, and I just got an email saying that I'm a semi-finalist!! So I have an interview at UVA on the 25th, eek! So even if I don't get the scholarship (which I'm guess ing I won't because the people who get it are like WHOAH), I'm happy to have made it this far, and I'm guessing that means I'll get in... | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By Cadbury_Eater Comments: 7192, member since Sun Jan 05, 2003On Fri Jan 06, 2012 05:49 AM
Yeah Maxwell, I'm in Australia. It's a very different system. And also, what we call colleges are like the, for lack of better word, exclusive uni accommodation. Like they aren't just a room, but they have a strong sense of community and tradition. And they are competitive just like your uni course to get into, especially if you want a scholarship like me to live at a college. (Hard to explain how it differs from just normal uni accomodation lol). Maybe's it's most comparable to sororities.
But yeah I've been looking at the colleges for all the potential unis, it's hard to decide because most you have to put as #1 preference to apply for their scholarships.
That's interesting how your system is not so much about the exams, but looking at people as a whole. Here for undergrad it's mostly you need this number to get in-they don't really account anything else.
Some of you guys are applying for such cool colleges! Like Ivys, and other cool ones like the Seven Sisters, CMU, prestigious British ones and good state schools in America | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By kay Comments: 1471, member since Sun Aug 12, 2007On Fri Jan 06, 2012 11:07 PM
Djchara, wow!! Congrats on the scholarship, what an honor
Good luck with everything Cadbury!
So...I have an interview this Sunday with Carnegie Mellon! Has anyone had any college interviews and if you did, do you have any tips for me? I am SO nervous. I'm pretty sure my chance for CMU is quite low..so hopefully this interview will help boost up my chances! I'm terrified though. | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By Firebird Comments: 1926, member since Mon Feb 14, 2005On Sat Jan 07, 2012 10:17 PM

Assuming your interview is with an alumnus/alumna, don't worry about it - they're more information (as in the person who interviews you tries to tell you about/sell you on CMU), and it can really only help you, not hurt you. As long as your interview does raise any major red flags, it should be fine.
Good luck! Like she said before, Amarath and I both go to CMU, so we can answer questions if you have any | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By KeepOnSingin Comments: 11013, member since Sun Dec 19, 2004On Tue Jan 10, 2012 07:00 AM

kay- I've had both alumni interviews and student interviews and actually neither one was as scary as I thought it would be. You know how they always say that the interview basically should back up all the good things your counsellor/ teachers say about you? I think that really is actually true. In fact, I had an interviewer even tell me that he wants the kids he interviews to get it--it's almost a competition among the alums to see who can get the most kids!
For me at least, when I get nervous, I get really smiley and chatty, and I think that actually helped. This is going to sound cliche, but really just be yourself- make jokes if you usually make jokes, be excited about the things you are excited about, you get the idea. I was texting my friend last night who is having her Princeton interview today, and she said she'd "spent so many hours preparing for it." I was like, what? How do you even prepare? I think that's totally the wrong way to go about it because they want to see who you actually are, not some polished person telling them what you think they want to hear.
I actually like interviews and I wish I'd taken more opportunities for having them. They're kind of fun once you get over the "omg this person is determining my future aaaahhh" thoughts Good luck!! | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By RattyPatty Comments: 4174, member since Mon Dec 29, 2003On Fri Jan 13, 2012 03:11 PM
Kay, did you apply to USC? It's way better than UCLA!
If you come to the LA area, I'd love to meet you. Good luck! | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By kay Comments: 1471, member since Sun Aug 12, 2007On Sat Jan 14, 2012 09:48 PM
RattyPatty-I was considering USC! I think it was because I had too many things on my plate, but I would have definitely applied. I actually live pretty close to there! And YES! We should have a DDN LA ladies meetup
djchara-Yeah, I think that does help! That's true that they definitely are looking for your personality and what kind of person you are rather than polished facts.
After a brief 'omgomgomgomg' moment in the parking lot, I went into the coffee shop feeling really excited but nervous. But the interview went really well. The interviewer was just the sweetest lady ever; she made me feel a lot more comfortable. We just chatted for about half an hour...it was half her asking me questions and half me asking questions about the school and now all there's left to do is wait.. | re: Class of 2012 College Apps en>fr fr>en By alicelovestodace Comments: 959, member since Wed Nov 12, 2008On Mon Jan 16, 2012 12:20 PM
