I just bought a bass. I'm still in shock. My hands are shaking. I've wanted to play bass for a long time now but I never though I'd actually do it.

It's an Epiphone ebony Thunderbird iv, I actually got a package deal that comes with an amp, a gig bag (because I hate hardshell cases), a strap, headphones, etc.

For weird and stupid reasons, I don't ever want my family to know. I don't know how I'm going to hide it from them (especially when they help me move home and stuff) but I'll think about that later.

I just...needed to tell someone...

(anyone got any advice for a first-timer who's teaching herself? Any good books that you know of?)
I still feel sort of jittery. It's coming by mail, so I've got some time, but still.

Yes! This is fantastic! I also bought a bass about a month and a half ago. It's a Jay Turser violin bass.

You're going to love this. It's incredibly fun to play awesome songs! Very very happy for this awesome news!

Congrats - is it jass or rock base - hard cases are better if you transporting a bass around a lot as while a gig bag will stop the odd knock and scrape they will not protect the bass from heavy knocks and dings. The biggest risk due to the weight of the bass is breaking the neck off the body. Do not ever transport a fiberglass bass in a gig bag your asking for trouble.

And to be really cool never call it a bass guitar its alway a bass or electric bass.

Welcome to the world of slap, pick and poping girl.

Oh my god that's the bass I have!!! I've had mine for like 4 years though. :) It's a super fun instrument and I love it and miss it to pieces since there's no room for it in my dorm and I have to leave it at home. :( (Wow that was a bad run on. Too lazy to fix it, though).

Good luck with your bass!!! There are a couple good sites online that have the finger techniques and then the notes underneath, so I'd definitely suggest those! I'm better at playing by ear than I am reading the music, so you might want to experiment with both styles and see which ones you like better!

The first song I learned on the bass was Green Day's Basketcase, and that's a fairly easy one to learn the bassline to. :D Good luck and have fun!!!
