So yesterday I preformed at a local festival in my town. I am a late starter and did not start dance that long ago, but I was comfortable preforming. I had danced for six years when I was little and had preformed at this festival before. No biggie right?
Well when I started back up, I went to a different studio then the one I had been with before. Turns out, my old dance studio was preforming right after us so they were there. That made me nervous even more then I already was. My tap dance went by smoothly. Then came a fun jazz Halloween themed number. Near the end, I and three other girls had grand jetes.
Now let me say, we are performing on concrete, in the street basically. People are all around us. It is a tight space and I was trying to make my jump small to where I could not hit anyone. I started and leaped. I felt light as air, and then suddenly I was on the ground. Then, I did the only thing I could think to do, I posed, smiled, got up, and continued dancing.
I was so embarrassed! Ugh! But I laughed at the video of it a good two hours after the fact. Anyone else have stories like mine?

Once I was at a competition and it was REALLY rainy. They had the platforms over one really long gazebo, but the roof of said gazebo wasn't made for rain and was dripping, so the stage had little puddles all over it by the last 2 dances. I managed to dance around the puddle in the first dance of the 2 but the last dance was on the spot and the way we were situated on stage, I was right on the edge of the puddle. It wasn't a pool or anything so I wasn't too worried. Unfortunately I slipped and fell right on the stage in the middle of my third step, and at one point in the dance, my skirt came unbuttoned in the back and was starting to fall off! Funniest thing was that I placed third in the end of things :P

Another time, I was dancing in a musical and my skirt was too big for me on the last day of the production (I didn't have time to eat a lot and combining that with the amount of dancing I'd been doing for the past 6 days, I'd lost 5 pounds and none of my costumes fit properly). It was falling off the entire time, no matter how tight I tied the elastics or how much I pinned it. I spent the entire dance trying to keep it on! Unfortunately in my attempts to keep my skirt where it needed to be, I ended up turning RIGHT into the curtain (we were dancing on the front part of the stage, in front of the curtain), losing my footing. I didn't know what else to do so staying in character (I was a demon) I finished falling over then joined in for the end of the dance. The skirt fell off right when I got offstage where at least 20 people were waiting to go on for their next scene... Which I didn't mind since I had a quick change right away. I was so embarassed... But it was so funny at the same time!

I was in a ballet company that had to perform on an outdoor stage over a lake at an historical country home, for five days we had glorious weather and we all made very tanned, or in my case sunburned swans. Our last night though the heavens opened and it rained and rained and rained. The stage was like an ice rink, lights shorted out on us and we all landed on our butts at least three times through our 3/4 hour program, if not more.

The audience all sat there with their drowned out picnics under umbrellas and gave us a standing ovation at the end of our performance. We were all soaked to the skin but we floated back to our B&B that night. That's what dancing is about!!

I have another one. When I was nine or ten, I had started clogging. So at the Spring Showcase of course I was going to perform in a number there. So we were changing lines and apparently, when I was going forward, i went to far and almost fell off the stage! One of my friend caught me before I actually did.

The Denver-area Jazzercise centers every now and then do a Broncos half-time show. Some time ago I was in one which incorporated two different variations of a routine. The idea was that the people in Group A and Group B would mirror each other, then split apart, reform in another line, split again, etc., etc. (I learned both variations so that I could go with whichever group needed more people.) When we split we simply jogged in a circle for 8 or so counts then reformed, using about 4 lines in the classroom. Ultimately, the choreography was supposed to create various formations on the field. We would be assigned places to actually jog TO the day before the performance at the dress rehearsal which took place on a Saturday at a high school football field. Well, at the dress rehearsal we were assigned places, shown where to go for the first split and re-form, then practiced it with music.

Then the cops arrived! Unbeknownst to our organizers, the neighbors had fought for, and received, a court order saying that outside of school hours the field could not be used for anything involving noise or music. The school, having rented the field to Jazzercise in advance, did not bother telling us about the new court order. So all our director could say was, "Well, just do your best at the performance tomorrow."

At the actual show, past the initial form-up we just jogged around during the moving parts and tried to dance in some sort of group for each dancing segment. It was a real mess! When I got home my son (who had been watching on TV) said, "Gosh, Mom, that was really awful!"

A few years ago at my school's end of year show, I had to dance in several different classes routines as a fill in. But every time I got on stage, the music would mess up. It stopped half way through the dance, or it started at the wrong time. It happened about 4 or 5 different times, but only in the dances I was in!
