 30 Something I'm joining the club! en>fr fr>en By Jonelle Comments: 3257, member since Fri Jul 25, 2008On Wed Oct 05, 2011 07:19 AM
That's right, as of today, I am officially a 30something! I am feeling so grown up these days, what with the getting married and the turning 30 and the moving into a house and all (rental house, but still). And yet at the same time, I still feel like a kid in a lot of ways. I kind of feel like part of me will always feel that way, which is fine with me!
So how are the 30s treating everyone? Anyone have any stories to share about what makes being a 30something awesome? 6 Replies to I'm joining the club! |

Being 30 is awesome because now I have enough life experience to know what I want, and enough confidence to go after it. |

I am only 25 and this is completely unrelated. However...
This post was right under a post from Baby On Board in the 'Adults' tab, so I totally read "I'm joining the club!" as being a part of THAT board. And I said..."WHA?!?!?!"
Regardless, happy late birthday.

^Oh, lordy! Yeah, I can see how if you just glanced at it, you might think that's what I was getting at. Nope, I'm just getting old. Much less exciting. |

Oh, you are not getting old, lol. Please. You are just finally grown up. Your 30's are the perfect age! A woman only starts getting respected when she turns 30. Enjoy!

The good news...I joined the club too. The bad news, I joined it 39+ years ago.
In most respects, our 30's were better in most ways than our 20's. (My wife is a year younger.) Though we were "adults" rather early...married at 23 (we were both college grads by then), parents of 2 by 25 and fully employed all during that time, it was the 30's when we were able to put it all together. A number of promotions, my wife joining the work force, the completion of a masters degree, the purchase of a "real" house all happened during our 30's, particularly our early 30's. I had several promotions at work and I found out that the field which caused me to be hired, was not really what I wanted to do and I managed to get into a better field by means of an internal transfer. It was also the time that we were more able to enjoy our children in the sense that they became old enough to be more participatory in family life. We also managed to move on from living from paycheck to paycheck and establish a better financial base for the future. That included the ability to afford the college educations of our children - that occured in our early to mid 40's and to put them on a firm financial footing directly out of college.
Congratulations especially to you Jonelle! Many happy returns.

30 hasn't been too bad, but I've only been a member for 2 years. I feel stuff in my body more than I used to, but otherwise I have Peter Pan syndrome and refuse to grow up, so there's that. I dunno, even when I was my 20's I knew folks who were really cool in their 30's so it never seemed old to me. But happy (belated) birthday! Welcome to the club, this is where all the cool kids hang. |
