Have you ever been at the studio so long (on one particular day) that you need to bring food? Nope but soon i will have to on thursdays because im gonna teach from 3-5:30 then i have a half an hour break and then pointe from 6-8
Have you ever had anything that you fear might cause your SO to not let you continue assisting? not really
And some new questions...
How did you become a TA? I asked to help assist a class of 6 year olds on fridays and my teacher said teaching would help me progress, i was in the eighth grade I ended up teaching four other classes that year and i have been ever since.
Do you want to keep teaching when you're older? Yes! My dream is to one day have my own studio
What kind of responsibilities do you have as a TA? I basically am there to be able to individually help students that are struggling so my teacher can work with everyone else. My job is to lead bar, learn and help choreography, stretch now and help them with their flexibility, turns, spotting, splits ect..
Are you the only TA for the class(es) you assist with or are there others? I am the only one on friday but on thursdays i will be most likely coassisting with a girl younger than me who is training as a TA
How long have you been assisting for? 5 years
What's your favorite part of the job? Getting to see the look on my students faces when they accomplish something and getting to know them and watch them grow and mature into wonderful dancers.
What part do you struggle with? I get too attached to the girls. I feel like their my family and it sucks when one stops dancing :/
Are there any cute/funny stories you'd like to share? One time i was teaching a six year old who was new to the studio, she told me to look at her and then mooned me... she quit a couple weeks later ahaha.... Also my dance teacher was talking to my 11 year olds about The Abby Lee Pyramid and how they'd love it and my teacher was like " none of you would ever want to pick who the best one in the class is because it would hurt other peoples feelings, you couldn't do it" and one girl Kathleen turns to my teacher and said "I could" .. My teacher said " say it." and Kathleen then realized she didn't want to say the real thing so she turns and says "Erin is the best one in the class" It was so cute.
What tips do you have for other TA's? My teacher always says that whenever i teach she's surprised that my cheeks don't hurt because i'm smiling the whole time. My biggest advice would be to love it and enjoy it,because if you genuinely feel it the kids will tell and it will really help them feel you are there supporting them.
Anything else you want to share? nahhhhh
