I've just started modern this year. The year before I took a lyrical class but at a different studio. So far I am LOVING modern! The only down side is that our modern teacher only plays music without lyrics. Its not that I don't like the music she plays its just that I sorta miss dancing to other songs. I would love love love to do a solo to Adele's song "Someone Like You". There is just so much emotion and I can imagine a beautiful modern/lyrical dance to it.But at the end of the day, I'm really enjoying my new class. (: What type of music do you love dancing to?
By the way: This is my first post on Dance.net!! 2 Replies to A Love for Modern Dance |

I like dancing to a variety of music. For listening I guess I like best classical and blues and "soft rock" type pop music.
The only music I really dislike is heavy metal rock. It sounds like just noise to me. But the interesting thing is that the few times I've danced to it in a class I actually was able to hear the music in it. |

I love instrumental music in modern dance. I think, when choosen well, instrumental music gives a little extra to modern dance.
It sometimes helps to make an "awkward" movement make sense... if you know what I mean.
And there are so many different kinds of instrumental music. I like typical african or asian music, but also film music can be used very well. And of course, the slightly strange but beautiful music from Cirque du Soleil of Dead can Dance, works beautiful in modern dance. |
