Classical ballet at dance competitions en>fr fr>en

I was wondering if judges found it appropriate for a dance school to enter classical variations as ballet solos at competition? For classically trained dancers, learning a variation is a mark of maturity and is often the focus of solo instruction time, if any at all is given. These dancers don't necessarily get solos, duets, groups and lines choreographed on them specifically for competitions but that doesn't mean they lack competitive drive. Do you think classically trained dancers should be allowed to enter a variation as a ballet or pointe solo at a dance competition if no variations category is offered, even if the choreography is not original?

Any thoughts on this topic would be appreciated. Thanks! :)
