I have a new dance class but it's a totally weird set up. Wait till I tell you.

My dance teacher who retired last year recommended a new dance teacher. This woman used to take w/her mom but opened up her own dance studio in her house when she left my teachers mom's school. A relative of hers had a daughter who helped out in the school but for some reason this relative didn't like that she had the school in her home. Why it is any of her business is beyond me. I guess some people just like to cause trouble. Anyway, the town she lives in says she can't call it a dance school because the town doesn't allow it. She has to call it a daycare or child care. I can't remember what the registration form says. Because of that, she can't advertise what she is. She can't be in the phone book, the yellow pages anyway, and she can't advertise on-line. It's just totally weird.

Anyway, I have to say I love my class. I know my teacher because I took class when she took class from my teachers mom who was my teacher then. She's in her 40's so I don't feel like I am so old. She is as excited about dance as I am. We are having so much fun! I totally am glad I am going to her.

Do I miss my old class and my old teacher? You bet I do but I understand why she gave it up. Am I glad I found a new teacher that I like and get along with? Oh yeah!

Regarding her not being able to call it a dance studio-- it's most likely because of the area she lives in. It's a "residential area" and businesses generally aren't allowed in residential areas without a change of zoning by the city/town/etc. Home day cares for some reason that is beyond me, don't fall under this category-- but I can see why a dance studio would.

Yeah, I guess I can see why she can't call it a dance studio, it's just weird that a day care doesn't fall under a business too, which it is. It's on a street across from a playground and there is a business on the corner of the street. Who cares though as long as I enjoy my classes, which I do.
