I just thought that I would let you know that this page is for people to post jobs - not for people who are looking for a job. you might want to post this in a forum below where you can post jobs that you would like to do and then when companies are looking for someone they would look there not here. Sorry I hope this made sense. Good luck!

Every dance job is going to have weight requirements. And the regular gig wheter it be Vegas, NY or cruise ships will all have a weigh in. They even weigh in in most college programs.

I am a 23 yr. old female who has been dancing for 17 years and have done everything from ballet to bellydancing to freestyle which is what I would currently consider my "style". I have been interested in this wonderful opportunity since I was 16 or so and I now have the freedom to really pursue it. I also sing as well and and can offer many different aspects of a truly entertaining show! I would love to hear more about how to audition so if you would please email me at geminipeach@comcast.net I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanx and hope to hear from you soon! -Serita

Hey guys,
I am currently dancing with a professional company, in which many of my fellow dancers have danced on or audition for cruise ships. Here are some tips for anyone interested.

1-Find out about auditions by going to cruise ship websites such as Princess, Disney...etc. They usually post their casting calls, and almost always tour nationwide.

2-Make sure when you go to audition you are prepared. Bring 2 resumes, headshots, and possibly have a dance you know on hand in case of a on the spot audition.

3-Pay attention, and look your best. Cruise ship dancing is all about impressing their guests. If you dont impress them, you aren't going to impress anyone else. Look your best with your hair and makeup done, and tight fitting professional dance clothes. Also, be friendly and helpful to other dancers. They are always watching you.

4-Last but not least, have fun and show off. If you do really great kicks, show them at your best every chance you get. Smile, look at your auditioners. Don't mind if you don't get in, because there are a lot of people that audition for cruise ships. Sometimes they are looking for a specific costume size only. But just keep going for it, and learn from your auditions.

Hope these helped guys! Enjoy!

I'm going on my 14th year of dance in jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, musical theatre, and hip hop. I have also taken pointe and modern. How do I audition for that? What type of dance? All that you need to do is go to the cruise lines web page. Find employment opportunity. From there they will give you audtion times and places and all you have to do is e-mail them to let them know you are coming. It is really easy. I know that at a lot of dance nationals they have cruise lines there auditioning and thats another way to get in. Good Luck girls!

Hey little twirlies,
Just reading all the stuff you guys wanna know about Cruise Lines. Listen as long as you have a strong ballet technique behind you, your own sense of style and you love to dance, I am sure you would be able to get a job on cruise lines. I myself worked for 4 years, had friends that were still dancing on the cruise lines at 40 yrs of age. Myself I was a Dance Captain for two years and I can clearly add that there is alot of good and alot of bad working on a cruise line. I went to college, even taught for a couple of years in schools and then went off to dance. So send in a tape into a few different companies, go check out their auditions and always remember your goals. Remember if you want company work down the road, cruise ships are not recommended accept for the performing experience, you spend a lot of time dancing in chorus shoes, no classes and say if your track requires turns on the left....thats what you do for 6 months straight...mmmm
If your young and you want to do it say for a year before college, I say do it! Just keep your head on, and remember your dreams! Have fun twirlies! If you have any questions or would like some more information I would be happy to answer any questions....contact jo@jodancer.com

Hi,
I have worked for Star Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line.
I have been a dancer as well as a production singer on these lines for the last 4 years.

I have had a great time on these ships. We really do nothing in comparison to the other crew, but we get paid quite well.
Even better for people from Canada and Australia, as we are in international waters and don't have to pay tax!! To all the others from Britain and the USA, sorry, but you still have to pay tax.

Firstly, let me say that if you can help it, try not to work for Star Cruises. It is an Asian cruise line. Although you go to some of the best itineraries that I have ever been on, and the ships are beautiful, they don't treat you as well, or with as much respect as the American Cruise lines. You also won't be paid as well.

I had a great time on Carnival, also, my sister is a lead vocalist for Royal Caribbean, and she really enjoys it as well.

The shows vary from cruise line to cruise line. They are all fairly cheesy, but fun to do.

The auditioners push you to see what you can do, but I rarely had to use all my skills during the shows. They aren't that technically difficult (in general - but there are exceptions! :P )

As a dancer, you will have to share a cabin with another person. Bit of a pain, but I have had some great room mates (and the ocassional bad one), but you get used to it. The cabins are rather small, but, I tried not to be in there for too long a time. It is just too nice up on deck!

Contract lengths range in time. In Carnival the contracts are 6 months and 10 months. 6 Months is the best length, as once it get towards 10, you really are ready for a holiday!

All in all, I had a great time. I learnt a lot about my self, and managed to save a fair bit of money.
Cruise ship life is not for everyone, but if you don't try, then you will never know!

All the best, and I might see you one day on the open seas!!
