Professional Female Breakdancer  en>fr fr>en
By bgirlpaws Comments: 2, member since Wed Sep 08, 2004
On Wed Sep 08, 2004 02:55 PM

Hello, my name is Aly, I just got off of a 2 month tour with the Vans Warped Tour for breakdancing, performing at 44 cities in the United States. I'm an independent artist however I do have a crew that I dance with in Vancouver, BC. I have a diploma course in Adventure Ecotourism, and recieved a job position on a cruise ship, in the cruise staff department, although I took the dance position instead because it is my passion. Now I saw this ad, and I think it would be ideal to combine the two. Please let me know where I can send my demo reel and resume to as I would love to be involved. Thank you for your time.
Take care,
Aly Nind

Vocalists for cruise ships?  en>fr fr>en
By mdimattia Comments: 39, member since Tue Feb 10, 2004

I'm a big band vocalist and I had a recent encounter with the entertainment director of a major cruise ship line. I do pretty much a Sinatra show but I was told they are looking for more "family entertainment", like magic shows, showbands, etc. In any event, it seemed illogical to me to want to do Vegas style shows, but also want "family" entertainment! If you've seen Vegas shows, they are not generally for families with young children. If anyone knows of vocalist openings for cruise ships, please contact me at mddimattia@aol.com. I'd be really interested.

Just another suggestion. Get a listing of all the major cruise lines then go to their websites and look for the tab for "employment" or "contact us" or "entertainment opportunities" somthing like that. They should all have something along those lines. Get the contact information. If it's not clear, email them for assistance or call the listed number on the website. Good luck.

Cabaret performers audition instructions  en>fr fr>en
By mdimattia Comments: 39, member since Tue Feb 10, 2004
On Sun Sep 19, 2004 07:31 AM
Edited by mdimattia (84237) on 2004-09-19 07:29:11 misspelling

This is an excerpt from proship.com audition tape submission instructions:

THE PROMOTIONAL PACKAGE AUDITION

(Acrobat, Feature Instrumentalist, Stand Up Comic, Magician/Illusionist, Juggler, Ventriloquist, Hypnotist, Cabaret Singer, and Novelty Act)

Since ProShip hires entertainers from all over North America, it is impossible to audition every act in person. Therefore every Variety Act must send us a complete promotional package, including glossy photos and a video of their performance in front of an audience. The video should capture your rapport with the crowd as well as their reaction to you.

VIDEO: The video must accurately represent your act in a live setting. We prefer an uncut 1 hour video done in front of a live audience rather than a 5 minute edited video done in studio. With the uncut video we can see how well you are received by an audience and how much material you actually have.

Your video should be of professional quality; the better you sound and look, the more chances you have of being selected. Comments accompanying the video to the effect that " ...this is an old video and we are much better now..." will not be taken into consideration.

The Promotional Package Audition should include:

- Video Tape: (see above)

- Photos: All photos should be 8 x 10 with the entertainers in "formal attire" or stage wear. All members of the act should appear in the photo.

- Song list: (if applicable) Printed repertoire. Please group the songs by musical style and language, vocal and non-vocal.

- Show Sequence: A printed show sequence for both a 45 minute and a 20 minute show.

- Biography: A printed biography including: a promotional "teaser" paragraph (6 - 7 lines ), a career resume describing your background and experience, a highlight of your last 3 years of professional work.

- Letters of Reference: Complimentary letters from previous employers.

Before sending us your Promotional Package Audition, please complete a
Preliminary Registration form NOW and e-mail it to us. Thanks!

Mail your Promotional Package to:

ProShip Entertainment - Web Page
5253 Decarie Boulevard, Suite #308
Montreal, Quebec, Canada H3W 3C2

Note: If you are sending your promotional material from outside of Canada, please indicate: "promotional material/no commercial value/ value of $1 for customs". This will help us minimizing high administrative and duty charges.

Cruise Ship Auditions article  en>fr fr>en
By mdimattia Comments: 39, member since Tue Feb 10, 2004
On Sun Sep 19, 2004 07:50 AM

Here is an articale I found about auditions for cruise ships. It's short but ok...

Cruise Ship Dance Auditions
by Christina Gentle
Cruise ship dance auditions can offer new opportunities for dancers who are looking to get away from their crazy routines of constant auditions while juggling extra service industry jobs. Dancing on a cruise line can let you take a vacation for a couple of months, and get paid to work at the same time. How much do dancers make on cruise lines? Well, it depends. The average is anywhere from 300 to 700 a week, depending on the cruise line.
Dancers who make it past the final cut of Cruise Ship Dance Auditions are usually asked to sign a contract. The contract can be anywhere from two to six months. Dance employment on a cruise ship normally lasts in one to two month intervals with a month long break in between them. Dancers are often required to attend rehearsals during their breaks from sea travel.
To do well at cruise ship dance auditions, dancers should be well rounded and well trained. Cruise lines look for all types of dancers who are strong in ballet, tap, jazz and other forms of dance. Dancing on ships can be quiet different than dancing on land. For one thing, ships tend to rock and move around in the water. Dancers should be prepared for this.
Learning About Cruise Ship Dance Auditions
Cruise lines often advertise their audition information on dancer focused websites, in newspapers and artist magazines. Auditions can be held all over the world. You can research online to learn when a cruise line is auditioning in your area. There are usually a series of auditions and call backs before the final casts are chosen. One cruise ship can hire several different casts of performers in one year.
