Instead of opening a second account, see if you can open a "vacation club" or "holiday club" - it's tied to your savings account, with the idea you're saving for a vacation or Christmas. I have one to try to save for a car - I was able to set it up so $100 from each paycheck goes into it. If I absolutely need to, I can pull from it without being "dinged" for it in terms of charges, or I can put extra money in there if I can finagle it.

For your birth control - can you get Caremark or Expressscripts? You might be able to get 3 months at a time for a discounted price. You might also want to ask your provider for samples (mine is $100/3 months, and they give me samples every 6 months when I go, so I end up paying for only 6 months' worth), or check the manufacturer's website for any savings possibilities.

It's not easy to manage money - so don't think it's just you! Until I ended up with an additional part time job this past year, I was just breaking even. And it's only during the school year, so over Christmas I had to be careful with spending, and will have to watch over summer too!
