Hey I am editing music and typically my dances are 2.5-3 minutes long but this particular song edits the best at 2 minutes even. Do you think the judges will score it lower since it is not longer? Help! 7 Replies to Is 2 minutes too short for a duet??? For competition. |

I've never found they score low for a shorter dance, not if it's good, clean and appropriate. In fact I always like to leave the adjudicators wanting more rather than sitting there waiting for a dance to finish. |

We always do shorter than the normal time limits. Teachers that come to us from other studios find they love it way better. And it's NEVER affected our scores... |

That is our preferred time as well. If it works go for it. I have never had any negative comments or scores for a shorter routine. |

We are a short-dance studio as well. 2 minutes for all dances, with a few exceptions. |

As a competition judge, I thank teachers who are smart enough to keep it short. It's plenty of time to show what they can do and most kids do many dances, so it keeps them from tiring out during a long day or weekend. You can spend more time on clean up and technique, than learning choreography. |

After two minutes-- I find most dances with less than around 5 dancers or so just becomes redundant. At the studio I teach at-- all solos are between 1:45-2:15/2:30. Duets are more around 2:00-2:30. And group dances generally end around 2:30.
Anything longer than 2:30, I get pretty darn bored unless there's some really fantastic choreography involved. |

I don't really ever go under 2 minutes but a lot of my dances are 2- 2:15. We've never had a problem with it and I like it better because the dancers aren't exhausted and getting sloppy at the end. I always say I'd rather have the judges want more than think "Is it over yet?"! |
