I'm stoked for some of these, too: I just bought Divergent on my nook and I hope to read it in the next month or so. Yay! My christmas present was a huge gift card to Barnes & Noble and it's PERFECT how much I love shopping for new books. |

I don't think anyone has mentioned this one yet. I stumbled upon a movie this afternoon called Never Let Me Go, which was apparently originally a novel of the same name, neither of which I've ever heard of. I can't speak for the book, as I've never read it, but the movie was very good and strange. I'm sure the book must be as well, which is why I thought I would suggest it if you are looking for some dystopian fiction.
The story follows three friends who grow up together from where they meet at a type of boarding school that turns out to be a place for raising clones whose only purpose is to become organ donors for people throughout their lives until they ”complete,” or die once their bodies can no longer go on/be of service. A love triangle forms between the friends and they are forced to examine life in a peculiar way that is not really all that peculiar after all. There is an underlying message there about society and humanity, but ultimately it is a love story. The story is heartbreakingly beautiful in a strange way. It struck an emotional chord with me. I wonder why I have never heard of it before today. Anyway, the movie is very good and well-acted. I'm sure the book would be good as well, if it sounds at all interesting to you. |

Definitely read Oryx and Crake and The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood. |

Edited by PureTap (198987) on 2012-02-12 01:37:08 Old man, not Ild man!!!
I've got a few more to recommend from the past couple of months:-
1. The Lazarus Principle, by Robert McDowell. Loved, loved, loved it.
2. Selection Event, by Wayne Wightman
3. Dominion, by JL Bryant
4. The Old Man & The Wasteland, by Nick Cole
Currently reading the last of the Hunger Games books after all the recommendations on here - fantastic series and I can't wait for the movie.
Cheers

Pure, by Julianna Baggot is meant to be very good. It is young adults fiction, the reviews I've read all say it's amazing regardless. I just bought it the other day, it's next on my list of books to read. It's the first in a trilogy, though apparently it hasn't come out in the US yet. |

I don't think anyone has mentioned When She Woke. It's a modern take on The Scarlet Letter, but also reminds me of The Handmaid's Tale. |

Okay, just finished Divergent this morning and definitely didn't want it to end...and I have to wait another bleeding 3 months for the next in the series! 5 stars!
I have a confession to make - I think I'm in love with Four.
Next in Line - The Giver.

I second "delirium" it is really great
I would recommend book by Gudrun Pausewang like "fall out" or "the children of schewenborn". She is an German author, but several internetsites say that the translation is very well done.
Also Margeret Peterson Heddix is a good author for dysturbias.
There is the Shadow Children series (but that is very very light reading)
douple identity
turnabout is the one I enjoyed the most, that was the time I really was interested in genetics or medicine
there is also william sleator with "house of stairs". |
