Work/Employment Not get hours at work, advice on the situation? en>fr fr>en By KeepOnSingin Comments: 11009, member since Sun Dec 19, 2004On Thu Nov 17, 2011 10:08 PM
When I started my job I had around 25 hours/week. This week I had 11, and next week, I have 4. Not only that, but literally every other employee has at least twice as many hours as me so it's not even like I'm working almost nothing and so are other people.
When I asked my manager why my hours have been cut so much she said "We can talk about that on your next shift. Lots of factors come into play when it comes to scheduling, it can't always be fair but I'll explain Sat." (This was via text message). I can't think of any reasons I should get so many less hours, but my manager seems to have them.
What should I do? 7 Replies to Not get hours at work, advice on the situation? |

Well first off, you should not text your manager. You should have called so she could explain it right then.
Secondly, you should talk to your manager and see what she says. |

^ I'm going to disagree because I had a manager who only wanted us to text us. She hated getting calls so if you had to call off or what not you had to text her.
In my experience when your hours are cut and everyone else has a normal amount of hours then something's up. |

Texting is my manager's main way of communication outside of the store.
I'm definitely gonna talk to her and see what she says, that's a given. Anything else? |

Honestly, the first thing that came to my mind is that they are trying to push you out. It's a lot easier on a business to have an employee quit then to lay them off or fire them. Therefore, when you talk, be receptive to anything she has to say. Don't argue with her or try to defend or justify yourself. If she suggests any changes you need to make in how you do your work, make those changes. Thank her for any feedback she gives you and make it obvious through your working that you have taken what she says to heart. |

^ Agreed, be calm and mature during the discussion. Take the feedback and apply it. Try not to be argumentative or emotional. |

Do you work in retail? If so-- this is their way of getting you to quit. They don't have reason to fire you, but they don't want you there.
You can either-- find a new job and leave. Or if you wanna piss them off a little... stay and bug the crap out of them for hours. |

Yep -- I do work in retail.
So I'm not crazy for thinking my manager dislikes me? Good.
Other good news is I got another job today. Also retail (I like retail), but hopefully with this one I'll get a decent number of hours.
