Hey!
Just curious any advice on healing a hamstring pull? It mainly hurts right near my butt. Mainly I just want it not to hurt at all.
Thanks! 3 Replies to Hamstring Pull |

^what celticprincess said.
I pulled my hamstring a month or two ago, and because of my university's policy on dance classes, I had to go to class. I wasn't able to rest it as much as I had hoped, but I didn't do high extensions, battements, etc. (I know, I know, I really just should've rested it. However, our policy is that if you can't participate for 2+ classes, you must drop the class...and NO WAY was I dropping ballet and jazz halfway through the semester). What I found to help me during the daytime and in class was keeping my hamstring warm. I pulled it a little lower than where it sounds like you did, but I bought a thigh compression wrap to keep it warm, and pain eased during the day. |

^ what an awful policy! no wonder you just worked thru the pain.
I'm not a stranger to hamstring pulls. Tried everything from heat rubs, gentle stretches, stretching the opposite muscle - in this case, the quads. I even tried going for short runs and stair climbing to 'distract' the muscle, though this seems crazy now.
But I've settled on massage being the best. Especially in the acute phase, you can give yourself abit of a massage in a direction parallel then perpendicular to the muscle fibers. Of course the best is to get a physio/trainer/therapist to massage those aching muscles and combine this with a gentle workout to warm up the muscles and get the 'blood flowing'.
Rest works great, but not many of us have that option.
