Moved to Weddings by Sumayah (204191) on 2011-11-30 11:07:51 Better forum for finding an updo/veil!

On a whim, I bought this wedding dress on eBay. I hadn't tried it on, and it wasn't really my style, but it was pretty inexpensive (as wedding dresses go), so I figured it could be a back-up if I ended up not liking it.

Well. It just arrived. And I absolutely love it. It has this vintage, 70s feel to it, so I'm having a hard time deciding what type of veil (if any) would look best with it.

I'm also trying to decide how I want my hair done. Because of the cowl neck in the back, I feel like it needs to be up or to the side.

Suggestions for either?

Hair up and a fascinator type veil would be my vote.

Totally agree with the others. I think something like this or this would be lovely.

If you need another vote, I vote for the hair up (maybe like this: www.updosformediumlengthhair.org . . ., either with the flower if you pick no veil or without it if you go the veil route) and fascinator too. I saw that dress and my immediate answer was fascinator.

I love the dress, by the way!

Thanks for the suggestions. I love birdcage veils, and I was sure I was going to go with one of them when I got married, but I'm not sure they go with the very 70s look of this dress.

I was considering something similar to what boleyngrrl posted. What do you guys think of these?

www.liveviewstudios.com . . . (only the hair a little less messy)
holladayweddings.com . . .
chicweddinghairstyles.com . . . (very small birdcage style)

Also, we're getting married about an hour and a half away from where we live. Very small ceremony (just us and our parents). Would it make more sense to get someone HERE to do my hair (so we can do a trial run and stuff), or is it better to find someone THERE (who may do a terrible job or not understand what I want)?

Something like this first pic is actually more vintage 70s than a birdcage (a birdcage is more 60s) but the top layer length only (or even slightly shorter) the bottom layer is a bit too long for this dress.

Or this second pic, the picture hat. I remember lots of those from the 70s.

kk~

LOVE the hat. I was doing some 70s wedding research and saw tons of them. Fiance would HATE the hat though. :)

Birdcages are not the right look. And a veil would make you too covered up because of the long sleeves. I vote for a hairstyle like in this first pic and with a headband like in the second pic or flower tucked in and that is all.

I think that a birdcage veil would look odd with that dress, although I love them. I think that flowers are the way to go. This girl had a 70s wedding www.eastsidebride.com . . . and I like her hair.

Weren't these flower ummm things? popular in the 70s too? I think they are really cute on some people, but don't look good on others.

The short veil in kandykane's first photo is exactly what I remember brides wearing with short dresses in the '70s. The floppy hat is also vintage 1970s but as I recall was more often worn with the long Gunne Sax wedding gowns. The flower circlets were also most often worn with the long gowns.
