Have your kids ever caught you and your significant other having sex? How did they react? How did you react?
How do you feel about telling kids 'the truth' like the author of the article?
While we do not have a lock on either of the entrances to our bedroom, we do have long hallways at each entrance. This combined with aging hardwood floors, allow us to hear little feet before they get into the room - but I still worry about it since my daughter has a bad habit of coming out of her room at night to look for us. 21 Replies to Getting "caught" by your kids. | re: Getting "caught" by your kids. en>fr fr>en By kandykane Comments: 14869, member since Mon May 01, 2006On Wed Nov 30, 2011 08:02 PM
Ba ha ha ha ha!!!! Oh, my. Yes, it happened once and uh, it was not a uh, a classic, uh, position either. Fortunately, he didn't seem to notice but lay down beside us and fell right back to sleep. That was a very, very long time ago. He didn't appear to remember and never asked about it. That was many years ago. But oh, my....
I remember walking in on my parents even many more years ago. I was about 15 and I think it was right after as they were just lying there, but they scrambled to pull the sheet up. Lol. I got over it. No lasting damage.

I've never walked in on my parents, but I've definitely...heard things. From my boyfriend's mom and her partner, too-Boyfriend's room is right underneath his mom's. My parents just have thin walls, haha. It's never traumatized me, but it always makes me shudder. I mean, I get that adults and parents have sex lives and stuff, but I still just REALLY do not need to hear or see the evidence. | re: Getting "caught" by your kids. (karma: 3)

I don't *know* that James has walked in on us, but I've had my suspicions. One time James and I were on the bed, and he told me he was going to "kiss me like daddy did", and then pretty much jumped on top of me and started squirming all around, and going "Mmm, mmm, mmm..."
So yeah...I can't say for certain that he caught us, but that's certainly suspicious behavior!
We've added more positions to the arsenal, so it looks less obvious if he happens to walk past the bedroom. He doesn't come in during the night, but if he's the first one awake, he will come in to see if we're awake too. | re: Getting "caught" by your kids. en>fr fr>en By Chaconne Comments: 5475, member since Thu Jul 12, 2007On Thu Dec 01, 2011 01:03 PM
We were walked in upon once by my son when he was too young to know what was going on (2-1/2-3) and he never said anything in later years to us. (He probably told his wife and every girlfriend he had before her.) We were sneaking one in between my coming off a night shift during a world crisis (when I often worked 14-16 hour days) and my wife had to get up for schoolteaching. (Horrors, even schoolteachers do it. Who'd a thunk it!) In later years what they heard through the walls I will leave to conjecture, but for most of the summers from the time they were 5 and 6 they spent the bulk of their summers with their grandparents in another state while we went to summer graduate school. Shall we say, we didn't study all the time. When they were old enough, those summers changed in to summer jobs in a grocery store in a resort area owned by their aunt's family. So our kids were never home in June, July and August until post high school years.
As for me an my parents...well now I know why they encouraged me to go to Boy Scout meetings on Tuesday nights, Church teen choir practice on Wednesday nights and two nights a week working at the public library. In that house, one had to walk through their bedroom to go to the lavatory. Shall we say, that they had fallen asleep and I decided I could hold it for a while. When they woke up they asked me if I had come into that part of the house and I said "No, I went right to my room to do homework!" I guess I was about 15 then.
We sort of caught my daughter once. She was in college and dating a Midshipman from the Naval Academy. We had been on vacation and under no illusions about the sex lives of either of our kids. We came home a few hours earlier than expected, shortly after sunrise. We figured a shack job would be going on anyway and when we entered the house we deliberately made some noise along the lines of "let unload the car right away" in a loud enough voice they could hear us. Then OMG, thump thump, and as we leisurely brought the suitcases into the house our daughter came out of her room and Navy Guy came out of her brother's room (he was in another state at the time) as if nothing had happened. My son's girlfriend at the time was the daughter of an OB/GYN and we knew he took good care of my daughter and his daughter. I was happy that she supported the military! LOL

I never walked in on my parents, but when we moved to a house where their bedroom was right above mine, I heard the bed squeak. It's never really embarrassed me. I'm glad they still really like each other, haha. | re: Getting "caught" by your kids. (karma: 2)

Apparently I walked in on my mom and dad when I was about three, uttering the classic line "Mommy, I can hear moaning." Despite my concern at the time I have no memory of this.
When I was about 18 she returned the favour and walked in on me and then-boyfriend. Her spluttering and stuttering was hilarious. "Oh, er, um, sorry, um, I do apologise, er, I didn't know anyone was in here, um, I..." and scuttled out of the room. | re: Getting "caught" by your kids. en>fr fr>en By kandykane Comments: 14869, member since Mon May 01, 2006On Fri Dec 02, 2011 03:57 AM
OMG. That would be worse. Walking in on one of my grown kids, either with a partner or alone. Thankfully, they seem to be discreet and lock their doors. And I always knock!

That is why I LOVED having dogs! My parents would hit the garage door opener about 300 feet before they reached the driveway, and my dogs would go nuts barking. Le boyfriend snatches clothes and runs to bathroom, I toss clothes back on and run to living room, nobody was the wiser. I love animals
Funny that that's always one of those "would you rather" questions...would you rather walk in on your parents, or have them walk in on you? | re: Getting "caught" by your kids. en>fr fr>en By Jenna Comments: 3013, member since Thu Feb 27, 2003On Fri Dec 02, 2011 12:21 PM
Oh man, getting caught by parents is not fun for anyone involved. Awkward memories that last a lifetime. | re: Getting "caught" by your kids. en>fr fr>en By hylndlas Comments: 7025, member since Wed Sep 22, 2004On Fri Dec 02, 2011 07:21 PM
The worst in my opinion is hearing your parents as an adult! lol
I mean I KNOW my parents have sex....like duh I'm here! But it's just one of those things you kinda don't want to KNOW about! lol | re: Getting "caught" by your kids. en>fr fr>en By Dream_chaser Comments: 24012, member since Thu Jul 26, 2001On Fri Dec 02, 2011 07:41 PM
Yes, but we always made sure that we were under the covers, just in case, so we could say that we were "wrestling". Once they were older, the rule was to knock on any door that was closed, no matter what. | re: Getting "caught" by your kids. (karma: 1)

^I've said the same thing. I've got verifiable proof that my parents have had sex at least four times (my brother, me, my sister, and our twin sisters). And that's it. I'm tapped out, that's all the information I need. Yikes. And similarly, I don't offer any - they've got proof I've had sex once, and that's good. That's all they need.
Jims dad, on the other had, has very little fear when it comes to just flat asking for details. We were at dinner, a couple of nights before the wedding - Jim, James, me, Jims dad and step-mom and mom and step-dad.
Jims dad asks us when was the last time we had sex.
JIM TELLS HIM.
We were on the ride home, and I was like "You know, I must be hella hot, that you're willing to look your dad in the eye, and go 'You bet I hit that!'"
He shrugged, and went "Well, why wouldn't I?"
I was like "I can think of LOTS of reasons!"
OMG...
I came within about two seconds of getting caught by my exs mom once. Although, they were so ridiculously over the top eager when it came to him doing anything sexual, that had she caught us, she was likely to have stood there taking pictures. Barf! Seriously - she honest to goodness looked me in the eye once, and told me she knew we had a good time in bed, because he was hung exactly like his dad. Well, a)I didn't consider my time with him to be "good times", but thanks anyway... b)Eww, didn't need to know, and c)I wouldn't go bragging, if you know what I mean... | re: Getting "caught" by your kids. We've been very lucky that from a young age, Elijah has slept through the night. We've told him a couple of times that everyone was going to have a quiet rest in their rooms... and closed our door. So we've never been sprung.
My father sprung us once. He came home early during the day when we were staying with my parents on a holiday. He made a show of making a lot of noise so we had plenty of time to sort ourselves out and pretend nothing happened.

I've never been caught by my parents, and I've never caught my parents either. I know they had sex when I was 6 because I have younger siblings, but my bedroom was next to theirs and I never heard a thing. | re: Getting "caught" by your kids. en>fr fr>en By Dream_chaser Comments: 24012, member since Thu Jul 26, 2001On Sat Dec 03, 2011 10:10 AM

When my husband, my then fiancé, was living at our house, I was in his room when the house across the street had an explosion and fire. My mom ran into my room, looking for me, then my husband's. We were JUST under the covers at that point and I lied but am not sure if my mom was that gullible. What could she say? She was 5 month pregnant when my dad and her married. My husband (my fiance at the time) and I were almost caught by his parents. They decided to drop by. We had just ummm...finished and were in the process of getting cleaned up when his phone rang. HIS PARENTS WERE IN THE DRIVEWAY. ::head desk:: I don't think I've ever gotten dressed so fast. Lol
After that, he put his foot down and said that they needed to give us more notice before coming over, as it's rude to drop by unannounced.
I walked in my parents once. I woke up from my nap and went into their bedroom. They were both naked. Whoops! They locked the door from then on. Lol | re: Getting "caught" by your kids. en>fr fr>en By Jonelle Comments: 3239, member since Fri Jul 25, 2008On Mon Dec 05, 2011 09:52 AM
My mom claims that I once did the whole "Mommy, were you having a bad dream? I heard you making noises" thing, but I don't remember it. I DID find used condoms a couple of times while emptying the trash cans, GROSS.
When Mark and I were still both in college, we had very few places where we could be alone, and his room in his mom's house was honestly the closest we could get to privacy. But yes, I am completely mortified to admit that his mom did walk in on us once, with no warning whatsoever. It's one of my absolute most embarrassing moments to date. | |

I've been walked in on not by my parents though. My boyfriend used to live in a dorm and his RA would stash beer in his fridge so he used a key he had ( which is not allowed) and walked in. It was the most embarassing thing ever.

I remember being a kid and sneaking with my sister to my parents bedroom door hoping to get them to make breakfast, and hearing grunting and the bed springs squeaking. My sister and I ran back to our room to debate what it was- I think the winning scenario was that they were practicing cartwheels on the bed just like my sis and I did before gymnastics class.
My future mother-in-law walked in on me and my man being VERY dirty. She had knocked about two seconds before opening the door (what's the point?) and I stood there, horrified, in some very unladylike undergarments Brian had purchased for me.
We all had to have dinner together later that night. Oh lordy. | ReplySendWatch
