Emergency cleaning up spilt laundry detergent en>fr fr>en By lildancergirl22 Comments: 222, member since Mon Mar 01, 2004On Thu Dec 01, 2011 10:40 PM
A whole container of liquid laundry detergent got spilt over the concrete floor of the laundry room. Big mess, no one is owning up to it but I live by the laundry room so I'm likely going to be the one stuck cleaning.
I have no idea how to go about cleaning it up. I've been able to wipe some of it up, but there's still a big residue. My instincts tell me to get a wet cloth but I know that it will just bubble up...any suggestions?

Use rags or papertowels or even newspaper to sop up as much as you can. Then try vinegar on it to remove the slick. In theory,a good dose of hot water should work but it might take a while to get it all. Vinegar will keep the suds down.
I know it's hard, but thank god it's only detergent. Imagine if it had been cooking oil or something really disgusting.
Good luck

Well I think you got the hard part over with, getting all the liquid up. I would think with residue any normal cleaning solution and mop/sponge would get rid of it, but if not go with the vinegar. |

I should have thought of this sooner. Kitty Litter!
There is a product called Speedy-Dry that we used to use in the diesel shop for spills. When it wasn't available, kitty litter was the next choice. It soaks up the spill, then you can sweep it up.
It it's not too late, give it a try.
Good luck

^ you could also use baking soda... but if OP already got the detergent sopped up, it won't help, the floor just needs to be cleaned now. |
