I'm so excited guys, I'm going back to dance! *party moves*.
I quit when I was around 11 or 12, and I'm seventeen now. I'm going back in February, so I have a couple months to improve my flexibility at home.

I can still do the front splits, however, it doesn't look as polished and perfected as it did when I danced. My knees don't seem to take the right angle, and my bag leg bends a little.
But what I'm hoping to learn in the box splits. It will look good in jumps, etc.

Also, I'd prefer my back to me more flexible. I need alround flexibility again, as it's been sooooo long since I've danced.
One thing I've never ever been able to do is cartwheel; I have no idea why.

Any tips and techniques on overall flexibility and dedication to stretching? Pictures or diagrams would be really useful, I find them easier to learn from.
:)

Here's a few tips...

1. Ease into stretching again. Don't just be like, "BAM. Yeah, I still got this!" You may regret it when you can't walk right for a week or so ;)

2. Never bounce into a stretch. Always breathe into it.

3. Partner stretching is always fun :)

4. Develop a stretching routine. (I stretch for an hour each night)

5. Always make sure you're nice and warmed up before you stretch so you don't pull any muscles, 'cause then you'll have to start all over again (no fun!).

6. When you stretch, remember that you're not only working towards flexibility, you're also working towards strength and control.

Hope this helped; good luck! :)

www.google.com . . .

I apologize for the long url, lol. But when you're stretching your back, keep in mind that this ^^^^ is the correct way to do a bridge.

Good Luck!

I always had a problem with consistency - some days I would stretch and other days I would be too lazy to move. Keep a diary/organiser with little stickers/drawings (or something you like) on each day that you do your stretching. Quite motivational and fun to look back on all the cute stickers!

Congrats on coming back!

Don't get discouraged if your body cannot do something it used to be able to. You are coming back because you want to learn dance!! Learning dance, for you, might also involve reteaching your body certain moves. For this, practice, practice, practice!! :)

Look on YouTube for cartwheel tutorials. I promise you, cartwheels are not that hard once you get the hang of it. Practice handstands, too, which will help arm strength.

Wishing you the best of luck!

Thank you all! Jump, that's a good idea! I have a diary I use everyday to put work dates in, so I'll keep them in there! :)

Thanks PointePrincess, I'm so motivated and determined this time! I WILL be good! :')
