Bummed...it's going to take me an extra semester to graduate :( en>fr fr>en

I did the math today, and there's no way I can graduate in May 2013 like I was originally supposed to :(

The worst part? I'll be done with my degree (major AND minor) requirements December 2012. However, in my school, we have to have a certain number of higher level credits, so I have to keep taking more classes to reach that.

I had thought that I'd be able to go over this coming summer, take 6 credits, and still graduate in May 2013. However, I miscalculated and would have to take 9 credits next summer. I looked at the schedule, and I would be in class 8-9 hours a day, Monday-Friday, all of June and July. Even if I didn't have to work (I do), there'd be no time for the homework.

It's better now, because I'll get to take fun classes (like Astronomy), since I get to stretch out my classes over an extra semester, but still...this puts me 6 months or 1 year behind on my masters, and I feel like I've been in school FOREVER.

There have been times in my life when staying in college for an extra semester or two would have seemed like a really good idea. :P (I did graduate in four years, but did grad school part time - while fully employed - nearly a decade later at a school which was far less fun than my undergrad school.)

When you get to my age, that six months will mean very little. Just try to enjoy the fun classes that you can take.

That happened to me, in high school. I had all of my credits, to graduate, by junior year but one class. So, I took that class and a bunch of fun ones. It was my most fun year of school.

Happened to me too. I think it happens to everyone who transfers and/or changes majors. No big deal, life goes on. I can commiserate additionally because ROTC tacked on an extra year to my masters degree. Annoying? Yes. Will I be the oldest 2nd Lieutenant ever? Feels like it. End of the world? No.:)

^Not quite the oldest 2nd Lieutenant...in my career, I knew many "Mustangs", that's a military person who goes to OCS and gets commissioned after a significant enlisted career. Some were in their early 40's when they received their commissions. You could usually pick them out, they were the only ones with one gold bar, some grey hair, and six rows of ribbons on their chest!

It's only six months! That's hardly a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of life. Don't beat yourself up. Enjoy your time as a student. Real life will sneak up on you sooner than you think.

Hugs, kk~

Now that I can say "I graduate next year", I'm feeling much better ;)

I also found out that the master's program starts in both January and August, so I won't be bumped back a whole year!

I also found out that instead of August 2012, I have to graduate December 2012, just because of TWO classes. :( Lame, right? So I feel you. But college has flown by so fast, I'm sure it will continue to go by fast for the both of us. :)

I don't want to jinx it, but I might be able to do a three week study abroad program this summer in Greece and get all the credits I need to still graduate in May 2013. I'm not getting my hopes up, but I'll be applying for the program and will need to point out the financial benefits to my dad (a tough sell), who would have to buy my plane ticket and pay my personal expenses, but graduating in May instead of December means not having to sign a year's lease for an apartment I'd only be living in for four months (leases run August-August).
