Anyone use crackle nail polish? It's a top coat that you put over any regular nail polish that then cracks up. I think it's really cool and love it. You can make lots of different looks with it and it comes in tons of colors and everything.

Here's a pic:

I had it done on my toes for the wedding. Well, I had it on my big toes - my sister wouldn't let me get it on every toe, haha...I picked a pretty dark red, with black crackle. It came out pretty dark, she probably made a good call.

I currently have black polish with silver crackle and love it. I think you just have to find the right color combos for it to look right.

Wow cool! I've never seen that stuff before, but I'm a massive nail polish fan, so I might have to source some of this!

^Not sure which brands are sold over where you are, manda, but I've seen crackle polishes from OPI, China Glaze, and Sally Hansen, and I'm sure there are more.

Whenever I have tried this, it just looks like chipped nailpoish.

What is the secret to making it look like it was done on purpose, and not the typical black chipped nailpoish?

Thanks Cien! We have Sally Hansen and OPI over here, so I might be in luck :D

You have to do it with 1 thin coat, otherwise it looks wonky.

I mean, to a certain extent, it's supposed to look like chipped nail polish. But if you're not satisfied with the way it looks, a few things to try would be:
-Make sure your base color is distinct from your shatter/crackle color. If they're too close in shade (or if they're close but you don't have a matte top coat to distinguish them), it'll just start to look like plain old chipped polish.
-Your base color needs to dry all the way before you put on the shatter/crackle polish. Like, COMPLETELY dry. I usually do the base color one day, and then shatter the next, just to be sure.
-Do one thin coat of the shatter polish to start. If you still want to add more after it's dried, you can, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I bought it at Delias and loved it. I tried hot pink with black crackle on top. I really want the silver crackle though.

I have several different crackles and I love them!

I hate the brushes on Sally Hanson crackles polish. Personally I'd say break the brushes as soon as you can and just use a small paint brush.

The only combination I have seen that I did not like at all was red/pink.

My friend did this and it looked like she had zombie nails. As it it looked like her nails were peeling and bleeding. It was nasty.

I think the colors need to be distinctly different in order for this look to work well. But that's just my 2 cents.

Speaking of the whole red/pink thing... it is apparently the new fashion trend and I just don't get it! Anyone actually think that it looks good?

I like this one, but it's the only red/pink crackle combination I've seen that I liked, and I'm not sure it would work with the red on top instead.

Can you tell I like nail art? :P

I have gold crackle and I love it! Part of that is that it looks nice, but admittedly most of the reason I like it is that I can put it on when my polish starts to chip and get a few more days out of the manicure. Clearly, I have made laziness an art form.

I have silver crackle that is by Sephora by OPI. I've tried it over black, white, purple, blue, and orange. Honestly, the silver over the orange was actually the coolest one!

I've found that the trick to getting it to come out right is to apply just a THIN coat. Also, this stuff dries really fast and gets clumpy, so no wiping the excess off on the side of the bottle. Have a tissue or paper towel handy nearby to wipe the brush on.

I'm obsessed. I have silver, black, white, red, turquoise, pink, and purple. Right now I'm wearing lime green with black shatter over top. One of my favorites is black nailpolish with pink crackle.

I really think that this looks silly. I'd like to see it done, and maybe used in a nail-polish mural, but I don't get the appeal of people wearing it.

HOWEVER, I put the minimal amount of energy in even noticing people's nails and even less judging them, and even if I did my nails always look terrible so I could very well be the least-qualified person to even have an opinion on nail polish. And I openly admit that.

I've found that for the sally hansen a THICK coat looks the best. When I did a thin one, it just looked like brush strokes. I know someone that has the OPI and it's a completely different look than the Sally Hansen. There are fewer crackles and they are much wider and might looks more "shattered." It's interesting to see how different the brands are.

I too noticed that this stuff gets especially gunky on the edge of the bottle. My 1 bottle that I have actually purchased, the wand got stuck and dried into the bottle so I can't even open it anymore. Doesn't matter to me though because I didn't love the look. I am really into matte looking polish right now. I don't like shiny/metallic. I have a matte gray color and I love it, it is very sophisticated.

Hahha I'm the opposite! I recently invested in an amazing silver metallic polish, and I am LOVING it. And I think this crackle stuff would look great over it, so I am very keen to try!

Unfortunately I can not wear nail polish to wear. I may have to buy it to try it for a day off though. This stuff looks interesting.

I own white and bought it because I saw a TV commercial for the polish and thought it looked cool. I thought white would look good w/any color I had and I have many. Mine didn't come out looking like it did on TV. Then I saw it on my dance teacher and hers looked like on TV. She had it done at a salon. She said you had to put a thin layer on your polish so when I did it again, it looked better, but still not exactly like hers. I'm going to do what someone on here suggested and wait until the next day to put it on. MIne is Sally Hanson. When I try it again will let you know if it comes out better. I think it is going to be one of those short lived fads. I haven't seen anymore since I bought mine at Rite Aid in the fall.

I have the sally hansen in white, China Glaze in black, and OPI in gold. I really like how the white showed up over black polish. I also like how the black shows up over a shiny, glittery pink (one of the polishes from OPIs Miss Universe line). I haven't tried the gold yet, but I might try it with the pink as well.

I love Crackle! I have the Sally Hansen version in black and silver. I would love to have all of the colors because crackle is so fun!
