There are a lot of UGG look-a-likes out there. I actually had a pair years ago and they wore out terribly to the point where they had holes in them and i had to pitch them. Are the UGG ones really a better quality than other brands? They are very pricey.

I've heard from friends that they are worth the money but I could never pay that much for them. I just buy the off brand ones but I've never had any problems with them other then the traction sucks.

I swore I wasn't going to spend the money...but I'm hooked. I have a pair of boots, half shoes, and flip flops. Best shoes I've ever bought. I've had my flip flops for 3 years and wear them often in Phoenix. The ground is past 120 degrees in the summer and the bottoms of my shoes hardly look worn.

I say they are worth the money!! Best shoe purchases I've ever made and they are comfy.

They're much more expensive than the knock-offs, but in my experience, they're definitely worth the money. I used to buy Target's knock-off Uggs, and they'd last maybe a season, usually a bit less. I've had my Ugg Minis for 3 (maybe 4?) years now, and my Ultra Talls for 2, though, and the Minis are the only ones that are probably ready to be retired. They're an investment, for sure, but I think it's worth it.

Maybe it's because I've never had a pair of real UGGs but I think it really depends on the climate you live in. I've had a pair of Wal-Mart knock offs for about 3 years now and a pair of Old Navy knock offs for about one year and both have held up pretty nicely. The Wal-Mart ones are a bit frayed at the top but they keep my feet really warm and were only like $15. However, I live in the south where there is hardly any snow and what we consider to be pretty cold is not really that cold at all. If you live somewhere where it gets pretty cold then yeah, I'd go for the real ones.

Absolutely! The knock-off ones aren't nearly as comfortable, and I'm convinced they wreck the way people walk...the inner part of the sole is always worn down, and it makes people walk with their feet turned in. The picture below is an extreme example, but I see it in every pair of broken-in fake Uggs I've noticed.

^So true.

Yes, they're worth the money. I got a pair for Christmas six years ago and they're still holding up. The only thing is they're a bit dirty, but nothing I can't fix (I'm just lazy). Actually come to think of it I haven't even worn them yet and it's been really cold here...hmmm.

That has never happened in my fake ones. I've seen it happen and I just assumed it was contributed to how they walk anyway. It has never happened to me though. They cheap ones are only made to last one season.

My current pair is Route 66 from Kmart. They are leather, and have a hard sole. They were only $20.

It depends on the knock offs. While I've never owned a pair of Uggs, I inherited a knockoff pair from my sister when they didn't fit her. They were bought from a (Canadian) Zellers, and I think because they were built for up north, they've held up pretty well. I've worn them for three years. They're still mostly waterproof; I can wade through slush, and keep my feet dry, but because the suede's wet, eventually my feet get a bit damp. The treads are really deep (deeper than regular Uggs): great for snow, and have mostly held up, except for where I melted them to the base heater trying to warm my toes.

I've definitely seen ones, though (*cough Old Navy cough*), that looked like flip-flops with brown socks sewn on top. I know they'd be garbage in a week.

I own 5 pairs of Uggs (4 boots, 1 flats), however only one of those pairs were specifically bought by me, the other ones were gifts. But the oldest pair has lasted five years now with no damage besides some wear and tear (mainly because the winters here can be brutal and I wear them in the snow/sleet). They are very warm and they're super convenient to just slip on and go. I have never worn knock-off/mimic versions before, but I can say that the UGGS I wear have never felt uncomfortable in the slightest. They are easily the coziest shoes I've ever had.

I bought a pair of fake ones a few years back and got about 3 years out of them.

I don't really think that uggs or ugg type boots have all that much support in them to begin with.

My fUGGs don't look anything like that picture. My foot sits right on the shoe sole. The only thing that I would agree on with the picture is how thick the UGG's sole is compared to the fUGG but that's why I like my fUGGs. Although it's not so great for my feet, I've always found thicker soles to be uncomfortable and not look good on me. For some reason it just makes me feel really clunky. But I've never experienced worn out soles.

I just don't think that the boots fit the chick in the picture properly and that she has wonky feet to begin with. The uggs are also new as opposed to the fuggs that aren't so new.

Uggs are pretty unattractive in my mind, so if I'm looking at boots I'm going to be debating between Uggs or something else entirely, not Ugg knockoffs. Because of that, I've never had a copycat pair...my awesome dad gave me a pair of actual Uggs for my birthday awhile ago. I think it was three winters ago. Those things still look mostly new and are still comfortable to wear. They are the only footwear to keep my feet warm in -20 degree weather with the wind blowing horribly. I can't imagine that the flimsy, cheap knockoffs would come anywhere close...I'm not a big fan of spending money but for stuff like this I like to "invest" as it were. The two winter coats I have were not cheap but they have lasted so much longer and keep me so much warmer than cheaper coats I've had.

I have a pair of EMU's that I've had for probably 2 years. I think they're a step down from UGGs. Like Brit said, the coldest it ever really gets here is in the 20's and doesn't snow. Mine still look like new and I don't have any problems with over pronating. Of course, I also rarely wear them in public. They're part of the "Whoops, forgot something from the grocery store and I'm cooking right now!" outfit. ;)

I walk normally (I had to get it checked several times when I was rehabbing a knee injury) and had the same turn-in thing happen with my EMUs. The next winter, I got a pair of Uggs and they're still perfect.

Never happened with my BearPaw or other fake ones of lesser quality than BearPaw.

Same here... mine never turned in or did anything weird... I have a separation of the sole and the upper and that is about it...

It depends on how much you wear them, if they are worth the cost. (And that goes for any wardrobe item.) For me, as little as I wear them, no, they are not worth the money to me. It would be different if it was a coat or something worn often.

They are great for quick trips to the store or post office, etc. but Uggs or Fuggs don't really have a place in my everyday wardrobe.

A few people at work have them and I think they are really cute. My friend has a pair and says they have held up great. She's had them for a yr. I had a pair that I wore in high school and I wore them out until they literally had holes in the bottom and I had to through them away. (They were from The Bon Ton & obviously not "Ugg" Brand. They were so cute though.) I've been seeing a lot of the look a like ones but I want something that I won't slip and fall in. I just discovered the EMU boots. Are they similar?

Then don't go for Uggs, haha. My Ultra Talls have thick soles, and I still don't wear them if it's slippery or slushy out. It's never been fantastic, I guess, but the lack of traction is especially noticeable now that I've been wearing them for a couple years. I still love them for warmth in fall and spring, but we tend to get a lot of snow around here (22" in 2007, woo!), so that's when I retire the Uggs for a bit.

If you're looking for better traction, look for something more heavy-duty. I got these last year for heavier snow and slush. Aside from the price ($90) and a short breaking-in period, I love them. They still have great traction, they're just as warm as my Uggs, and they look cute. :D

I tend to fall over at the price of UGGS and I'm not sure I could every justify it... I'm an EMU girl myself, I just love them!

I've never paid full price for my boots either, I have a cream short pair (TKMaxx) which I wore solidly for about 3 years which have been pretty much retired by a chestnut longer pair I bought last winter which have stretched a bit, sadly and due to my lack of pre use sprayage got water marks around the front :( but that's my own falut. I have a short dark brown pair but they were never very good, I don't think they were genuine EMUs when I got them (TKMaxx again) so they are my Halloween 'scaring people in woods' (www.scaresville.co.uk) boots! They have caved in a bit, though not half as badly as the boots in the picture. I also have a grey knitted pair of BearPaw boots (TKMaxx AGAIN!) That have been great! They are suede around the foot then knitted with buttons on the side, they have been through the washing machine on a number of occasions and have been great!

So yes, EMUs, yes, UGGS no!

My longer EMUs have removable innersoles too which is handy!

Sarah
