I've always taken videos on my digital camera and edited them in Windows Movie Maker, but with my new camera it won't let me import the videos into Movie Maker, but instead says:


The file G:\DCIM\100OLYMP\P1010291.MP4 cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.


I checked online and it said to do a Windows system restore or something, but it didn't work. A boy from my school suggested finding a MP4 to WMV converter online, but I'm scared that I'll use a bad one and that it will give me a virus. Does anybody have safe ones in mind before I go clicking random things on the internet?

Converts almost any format into almost any other format. Haven't had any issues with it at all.

My video is over the size limit for both sites. Are there any others or should I just film it again in shorter parts?

Wow - must be huge!

There's another freeware conversion program I use, called Super (www.erightsoft.com . . .) You do need to install it (Windows only - click the "download and use" link here: www.erightsoft.com . . .) but you can then set it to run and walk away. Let it run overnight, if it's a big job, because the conversion process can cause your computer to lag.
