Today I woke up feeling really nauseas and I wanted to stay home. But I didn't because today was the last day before exams tomorrow and I wanted to ask my teachers a few questions. So, I didn't eat breakfast like I normally do. During Latin while I was taking a quiz, I started to feel really hot and sick and my ears were ringing really bad, so I got up and told my teacher that I wasn't feeling well. She told me to go to the nurse and then when I was about to open the classroom door, I guess I just fainted. I woke up a few seconds after that even though it felt like hours, and everyone was standing over me with a shocked look on their face. My teacher called the nurse who brought a wheelchair to take me to the office. Then they got an ambulance to take me to the hospital because I have heart problems and thought it was necessary to do that. The school called my mom and she rushed to the hospital to see me and after getting my blood sugar checked they said it was just low from not eating breakfast and that was why I fainted. I also found out the nausea was most likely from my period that started after I got home from the hospital.
So.. I'm extremely embarrassed.. Somebody in my school fainted a few weeks ago and everybody was talking about it and freaking out. A lot of people probably saw the ambulance in front of the school too. On a more important note, I'm feeling much better and I'll be able to take my exams and everything! I'm still just really embarrassed and nervous to go to school tomorrow. So.. anybody have stories like that to share or anything to make me feel better? 18 Replies to I fainted in the middle of class.. | re: I fainted in the middle of class.. (karma: 5)

When I was in 7th grade, the entire school was standing outside after class waiting to get on their schoolbusses. Some girl kicked me in the nuts, and I passed out in front of everyone. Worse, I peed my pants. In front of the whole damn school. After getting beaten up by a girl.
It could be worse. You will get over this. Don't skip breakfast again. | re: I fainted in the middle of class.. en>fr fr>en By Felsa Comments: 3809, member since Thu Nov 09, 2006On Thu Dec 15, 2011 05:34 PM
I once accidentally pulled my skirt down in class.
We came in from lunch break and it was the middle of winter so I was wearing snow pants (this was grade 2). When I came in I was talking to my friend and taking off my snow pants and my skirt went down with them. I was horrified! Everyone forgot after a couple days though.
Also at the same school, a kid in my class fell off the playground and everyone thought he broke his jaw so they called the ambulance. Everyone was freaking out (also in grade 2) but after 2 or 3 days everyone forgot about it.
So don't worry about it, people will forget about it soon.
I am glad to hear that you are okay though! | re: I fainted in the middle of class.. en>fr fr>en By Theresa Comments: 32198, member since Wed May 22, 2002On Thu Dec 15, 2011 06:21 PM
When my sister was in high school, she was up asking the teacher a question or whatever. She went to sit back down, sat down, and the desk collapsed. She was perfectly conscious, but laid out flat.
They called 911 to take her to the hospital.
She was obviously fine.
And I passed out once at the mall! I gave blood, and we were at the mall, Christmas shopping (so it was around this time of year...) I started feeling really hot and weak, kind of like you did, so I put my purchases down, and went out into the hallway in the mall. I was still feeling hot, so I put my head down on one of the display cases, cause they were glass, so they were nice and cool.
Next thing I knew, I was sitting on the ground, wondering what the heck happened.
My mom made my sisters leave, and we stopped and got me a Sprite to try to bring my blood sugar back up. I was two days getting right from that experience. :/
It's no big deal - people are going to gasp, and act like you're probably gonna break if they look at you sideways, and then someone else will do something stupid, and you'll be off the hook. Easy-peasy. | re: I fainted in the middle of class.. en>fr fr>en By panic Comments: 10603, member since Thu Dec 16, 2004On Thu Dec 15, 2011 07:01 PM
^OH, that too. When I was in high school, I was donating blood, and I passed out with the needle still in my arm. Long story short, I ripped the needle out of my arm, blood spurted EVERYWHERE, and when I regained consciousness, it looked like a horror movie. There were blood stains in my school's library's carpet for years. But everyone felt sorry for me, and I used it as an excuse to sit in the band room for the rest of the day (as if I needed an excuse for that, but whatevs). | re: I fainted in the middle of class.. en>fr fr>en By LizDancer Comments: 912, member since Fri Jan 06, 2006On Thu Dec 15, 2011 08:09 PM
This isn't actually really my story but everyone else's stories made me think of it so I'm going to share. In middle school we all had to get a series of shots, I think it was for hepatitis or something. So they came one day and everyone got called down to get their shot, and then a week later they came back to do the other one. But this one boy passed out when he got his shot and other people saw it so everyone found it! I think he was really embarrassed that he fainted over getting a shot. And then, even worse, he passed out again the second time! Totally embarrassing.
I don't think yours is very bad. Everyone will flutter around you for a while and want to know what happened but probably just because they're concerned plus it was dramatic and therefore kind of exciting. Just tell them your blood sugar got low and the ambulance was just a precaution but you're fine now. I don't think you have anything to be embarrassed about and I'm sure everyone will forget all about it in a couple days. | re: I fainted in the middle of class.. en>fr fr>en By Josiane Comments: 1167, member since Sun Nov 06, 2005On Thu Dec 15, 2011 09:16 PM

Don't be embarrassed. It happens. I can faint quite easily if I don't drink enough, if I am tired, if I don't eat enough or not enough sugar... so it happened a couple of times at school. If it can make you feel better, here are some stories that happened to me.
Once it was a study period and I started to feel like I was gonna faint (after a couple of times, you just know) but of course, by the time I was starting to notice, it was too late. I fainted and fell off my chair. At first everyone just thought I fell off my chair like that and they all started laughing (someone told me that). Then they noticed I was shaking on the floor and they were all scared because the text we were studying was on epilepsy so everyone was convinced I was having a crisis. I was really embarrassed and wanted everyone to leave me alone. It's been almost 10 years since that happened and people still talk about how funny it was when they first thought I just fell but how it became so dramatic after. I must admit that afterwards, it's a funny story to tell and I was not injured.
Another time in biology class I felt like I was gonna faint and I asked a friend who had a water bottle If I could drink some. She didnt pay atttention because I must have mumbled but the teacher saw how pale and dizzy I looked and he sent me to the nurse with a friend. I went to drink water and was ok. While I was away the teacher proceeded to tell the class that I was very fragile considering my weight and that I was probably anorexic. That caused all my friends/classmates/parents to be completly paranoid and for a long time I couldnt leave the table at lunch because everyone would think that I would go the bathroom to vomit. Totally not the kind of attention a 14 year-old nerd wants.
I also almost fainted last January because I didnt eat a big enough breakfast. I was shopping by myself and started to see black spots and I felt dizzy. I bumped into some tables and racks of clothes because I couldnt see straight. I then went completly BLIND on one eye. I tried to go the bathroom as fast as I could to drink water but since I couldnt see with one eye I accidently entered the breastfeeding room and it took a while before I noticed I was NOT in the bathroom. I made my way to the bathroom, then drank water and went to buy myself a decent lunch and the sweetest lemonade and I was just fine 20 minutes after. It was still pretty scary. | re: I fainted in the middle of class.. en>fr fr>en By Tansey Comments: 1451, member since Fri Mar 27, 2009On Thu Dec 15, 2011 10:09 PM
Many years ago I passed out on a school field trip to Plimoth Plantation. For those who don't know it's a living history museum in Massachusetts where real people "live" during the day re-enacting Pilgrim and Wampanoag life in the early to mid 17th century. It was a hot June day, and hotter still inside a stuffy Pilgrim cottage where candlemaking was demonstrated for us. I was up front and went out cold, hit the ground. It was a big topic among my classmates for a day or two and then everyone forgot about it. The same should be true for you. Good luck with your exams! | re: I fainted in the middle of class.. en>fr fr>en By d4j Comments: 11479, member since Fri Aug 27, 2004On Thu Dec 15, 2011 11:45 PM
I was at a dance intensive and during the performance at the end of the week, I started to feel faint while dancing with my partner. As we took our bows I started to collapse in his arms and he practically dragged me off stage where I fell to the floor in the wings. I was on the ground for about five minutes. I couldn't open my eyes but I could hear everything around me. Some of the dancers were nurses and they were telling everyone to not crowd around me and for someone to get some juice. And they were talking to me telling me to wake up. I finally was able to sit up and I ate some candy and drank some juice. It turned out to be a hypoglycemic moment. I think they figured that out because I was so pale. I was so embarrassed, but I got up and danced the rest of the show. I was still kind of shaky but I managed.
I'm glad you're ok! Hug~ | re: I fainted in the middle of class.. (karma: 1)

Oh man, I totally understand.
When I was in the 7th grade I had a seizure while in the ladies room...peeing. I was just going about my business when I got a funny feeling and then I was out. A must have been laying by the toilet, pants down, for at least five min before someone was BRAVE enough to look under the stall and get help. They called and ambulance, but not before twenty people came in to stare at the twitching half nekked me. When I came around it was really hard to talk and I am sure I was just babbling and cursing a lot.
I only remember sitting in the hospital later, with my band teacher telling me what had happened because I remembered nothing- It was horrifying. I was SO afraid of going back to school.
But- the next day back at school, it turned out someone had spread a rumor I had OD in the bathroom shooting heroin or something. I guess a lot of people heard I had a seizure in the bathroom stall and was cussing a lot (and loudly) at the EMT's and school officer, because they were taking my drugs or something. I was the resident badass for a few weeks. Made being at school a little less awful.
Fear not, this too will pass. | re: I fainted in the middle of class.. en>fr fr>en By playmaker93 Comments: 14, member since Sat May 21, 2011On Wed Dec 28, 2011 06:52 PM
I fainted once on midnight mass on christmas eve while they were singing joy to the world.
I felt as though I couln't breathe so I got up hoping to get some fresh air and fainted right in the middle of the aisle.
The whole mass was put on hold and an ambulance was called.
It turns out I am allergic to the frankensence they have on christmas and it made my throat close up until I couldn't breathe. | re: I fainted in the middle of class.. en>fr fr>en By celticprincess Comments: 976, member since Thu Aug 26, 2010On Thu Dec 29, 2011 06:04 AM
Last summer I went to Camp Rince Ceol, and I collapsed on the first day. It was almost 100 degrees but I didn't know, so I wore tights under my shorts. During my drill class I started to feel sick, and then when we went outside for master class, I collapsed and fell right off the stage! I had to be driven to the nurse in a golf cart. I was so embarassed! Turns out I had heat exaghstion | |

Trust me I feel you on this one, I have low blood pressure and hypoglycemia so I pass out very easily. I've passed out in school twice, the first time was in 2nd grade and the nurses insisted it was because we were watching a movie about pilgrims that may have had gross scenes in it or something(I have never felt faint or queasy about anything in my life I might add). We found out after it happened at home a few times that it was my blood sugar being low. The second time was in choir practice that time they had the whole wheelchair nurse thing too, people talked about it for a few days after but not many people remember it, the teacher and I and some friends laugh about it sometimes now. I've also passed out after multiple shots, I always lie down to get shots but I still passed out after having the tetanus booster shot and all three gardasil shots, although the first shot I had what they think may have been a seizure. The nurses freaked out a bit but everything was fine. If this is a one time occurrence just laugh it off and everyone will forget about it, if it becomes a recurring thing though always keep food and some sort of drink on you and make sure at least one person you're with knows what to do if you pass out, it keeps the people around you from panicking like crazy.

Oh god.
I actually was removed from our health and personal deveopment classes because I KEPT fainting.
I have a very weak stomach. The first time I fainted, I was in year 4 and we were learning about the digestive system. Passed out on my chair, fell backwards, hit my head on another desk..out cold.
Year 6, teacher was talking about diseases...I walked towards the door to get fresh air...passed out in front of the whole class.
Passed out a few times in health cls in year 7, so I had to do all my work in the library on my own, from a text book to prevent me from getting too overwhelmed and passing out. I got picked on a LOT.
Fast forward 10 years....working at a charity organisation and a doctor came in to give a presentation on a disease which affected a lot of the kids I worked with, so we'd have a better understanding of what they're going through etc. I thought I was doing fine, it was my 3rd day there etc. 10 minutes into the presentation and some fairly graphic images....I felt faint, so I got up to get some water...ended up passing out outside the boardroom, and landing under someones desk..where the GM later found me. Yes. Awkward.
No advice really, just don't worry too much It happens to the best of us. | re: I fainted in the middle of class.. en>fr fr>en By Melpomene Comments: 643, member since Sun Jan 30, 2011On Thu Jan 05, 2012 08:37 PM
When I was at middle school during class going through a practice spelling bee game with everyone, I suddenly had this MASSIVE nose bleed.
My teacher got fustrated with me, and sent me back to my desk. I was gushing like crazy for a good while, and soon had piles of bloody tissues.
All the other students moved away from me with comments like "Eew....gross!!"
Definitely was not a fun experience LOL
Now his didn't happen to me personally, but a classmate/friend of mine back when we were in the 3rd grade. First she started vomiting at her desk, then along the middle of the classroom towards the sink as she slowly started walking towards it, stopping every couple seconds to vomit. There was literally a trail, about 15 feet long, of puke.
The teacher then showed up and helped her out, the poor girl!
You are definitely not alone! And it is true, those things become long forgotten in due time. | re: I fainted in the middle of class.. en>fr fr>en By bethnee_rose Comments: 251, member since Sun Jan 03, 2010On Thu Jan 05, 2012 09:41 PM
*hugs* I hope everyone forgot over christmas!!
I read this thread a while ago, but just now remembered when something like that happened to me... well the same thing happened twice!
First I was in primary school, I think I was 9 but I might have turned 10 already and there had been a nasty 24 hour stomach bug going around the school a week or so before. I was standing in a line waiting to give my teacher some work and all of a sudden everything started spinning and it felt like the floor was tilting! I can remember I fell backwards onto someone and then stumbled to the side a bit and the teacher asked if I was o.k, I said 'I don't feel too good', ran about three steps to the door and then vomited everywhere :S It was so gross!
Just put the second one under a spoiler 'cause it's a bit icky!!
Spoiler: Show
Second time I had been feeling a bit odd all day, but didn't want to go home because I had P.E at the end of the day and we were going to swim for the second half of the lesson. So got through to the last class of the day and we were playing soccer (or some kind of kicky ball sport! Haha) and I was talking to a friend and I must have gone pale because she asked if I was alright and I said that I wasn't feeling well, put my hand over my mouth and did the HUGEST vomit ever... I'm talking it squirted through my fingers and all over the grass infront of me! It was mortifying! And to make it even worse, we were JUST about to finish soccer to go swimming!!

Two words: seizure disorder.
I'm constantly hitting the ground and twitching like a maniac from all sorts of environmental things: extreme temperature changes, bright lights, being in a car and sun flickering between the trees, blinking too fast...
Most of the time, people just let it happen because they know it's going to last only a minute or two, and they're used to it. There's nothing I can do about it. They'll get over it. Most of them are probably just wondering if you're sick. At least they care, if not only to gossip. Tell them to buzz off, and then share all of our stories. | re: I fainted in the middle of class.. ^Actually, there is a LOT you can do about it. Most importantly, pay attention to your blood sugar. Secondly, learn to recognize your triggers and your early symptoms so you can (hopefully) prevent a full-on seizure. See your doctor, and get on some medication if needed. If all else fails, lie down on the ground the put your feet up. I have only had like 3 episodes in the past 20 years - but only because I never said, "Oh well, there's nothing I can do about it." There is a LOT you can do about it. | re: I fainted in the middle of class.. en>fr fr>en By UberGoober Comments: 5678, member since Sat May 15, 2004On Fri Jan 27, 2012 07:51 PM
Don't worry about it. You aren't the first and you won't be the last! Advice? Own it and make it into a great story or make it not a big deal.
I'm 23 and nearly fainted in my neurology anatomy lab last week. I hadn't eaten breakfast (mistake number one!) because I woke up late and it was only an hour until lunch. I was reading out loud to my group while standing (at a table that was the perfect height for me to lean forward slightly and lock my knees...mistake number two!) I could feel myself getting light headed (which has happened to me before and I was able to prevent myself from fainting because I sat down) and so walked over to get a chair. As I was dragging the chair over, my knees gave out and I hit the floor (rather gracefully said my lab table). I never blacked out fully but got the weird, head rush feeling...where you feel like you are in another world with everyone's voices around you. My friend just thought I had tripped, but then saw how pale my face was and sat me down in the chair and put my head between my knees.
Turns out hardly anyone from the lab saw me fall except the two neighboring tables and my professors. I was a little embarrassed, but I told everyone about what had happened if they asked (partially because I didn't want them to think I fainted because I was grossed out....we were handling brains). I turned it into kind of a joke about how I must have just swooned because of the presence of my lab partner (who can take a joke too ) | ReplySendWatch
