Holidays How many people are at your holiday gathering? (karma: 1)

Moved to Holidays by oz_helen (35388) on 2011-12-22 18:12:36 moved to more appropriate board
Inspired by Coccinella's "How many Christmas dinners are you attending?"
So, how large or small are your gatherings?
There will be eight here at my house on Christmas Eve. Then we go down to my mom's for the big gathering where there may be as many as 34. (Yikes! Hope I have enough cookies and stocking stuffers!)

We have 9 at ours. New baby coming in the new year means next year we will have 1 more at the table! | re: How many people are at your holiday gathering? (karma: 1)

Just 4 of us and I'm really excited for it. I love my extended family but I spent Thanksgiving with my dad and step-mom and will be spending Christmas with my mom, step-dad, and brother and it's going to be nice to just sit down with my immediate family and have dinner. Usually we have anywhere from 12 to 18 people at our holiday gatherings so it's going to be different but nice. | re: How many people are at your holiday gathering? (karma: 1)

I've always had big, two-per-day Christmases my entire childhood.
I would go to my mom's side in the morning (which had grandma, grandpa, mom, dad, me, sister, aunt, uncle, cousin, cousin, uncle, cousin, cousin, and usually 2 or 3 other extended families) so about 16 people all together.
Dad's side was the big one: it'd be dinner with the family which included grandpa (with grandma when she was alive), mom, dad, me, sister, aunt, uncle, cousin, half-cousin, half-cousin, removed uncle, aunt, uncle, cousin, cousin, aunt, uncle, cousin, cousin, cousin, aunt, uncle) so like 20 people around...and in recent years it was more because the older cousins including myself were bringing significant others, so up to 25 ish. Imagine once people get married and have kids!
This year, however, it is just me and my fiancé on Christmas. We're even thinking of seeing a movie on Christmas (my traditional side is shocked, but part of me is excited to try new things when celebrating the holidays, especially because I do not have a religious connection to Christmas). | re: How many people are at your holiday gathering? There'll be eight and a half of us.
Me, Tim, his parents, his aunt, his brother, his sister, her husband, and their daughter (nearly two).
Once we've had dinner and opened presents at his parents, the younger contingent will be round to his sister's house for the evening where we'll be joined by a friend, so we'll be 6 and half by then although Rose will of course be in bed from about 7 or 8 or so.
I see my dad and sister in the morning at the pub before we go for dinner | re: How many people are at your holiday gathering? (karma: 2)

There will be 10 - 12 at our table this Christmas. Ten for sure, and I've invited 2 people who I suspect don't have a place to go. Am awaiting their responses. I normally have about 15 but 3 of the regulars are out this year as they have a house guest who is allergic to my dog and cat. We also have about 4 cousins joining us for dessert. My son is returning from 4 months in France just in time for Christmas; best present ever! Can't wait! | re: How many people are at your holiday gathering? en>fr fr>en By Jonelle Comments: 3244, member since Fri Jul 25, 2008On Thu Dec 22, 2011 11:22 AM
I think we'll have about 13 at my husband's family's dinner. That sounds like a lot to me, but there used to be closer to 20, apparently, before he and I were really together. He gets really nostalgic for when there used to be more people and things were more chaotic, but a smaller group and less chaos works much better for me! | re: How many people are at your holiday gathering? en>fr fr>en By Coccinella Comments: 5284, member since Sat Jan 25, 2003On Thu Dec 22, 2011 11:36 AM
It depends on the gathering. Lastnight I had a small dinner at my Dad's house with my Dad, step-Mom, boyfriend, sister, brother, ste-Grandma. But on Christmas day I'm having a dinner at my Aunt and Uncle's house that will probably have 15+. | re: How many people are at your holiday gathering? en>fr fr>en By BeautifulMistake Comments: 2351, member since Tue Feb 20, 2007On Thu Dec 22, 2011 12:03 PM
Hmm...
- Boyfriend's dad's house probably under 10.
- Boyfriend's step dad's parents probably around 20-30
- My mom's family ... 15-25
- My dad's family...40-50 | re: How many people are at your holiday gathering? en>fr fr>en By SLBdancer Comments: 2068, member since Sat Jul 20, 2002On Thu Dec 22, 2011 03:29 PM
We are going to have 18-20ish people at our big Hanukkah party. It will be mostly family, with a few friends as well so it should be a great time! | re: How many people are at your holiday gathering? en>fr fr>en By panic Comments: 10603, member since Thu Dec 16, 2004On Thu Dec 22, 2011 03:59 PM
We usually have about 10 for breakfast, 20-25 for lunch and lots of randoms throughout the day. And it lasts from like 10 am to 10 pm. I'm exhausted just thinking about it. Sometimes my parents go crazy with karaoke on the patio and a full bar, and sometimes they just do mimosas, coffee, and football (in addition to TONS of food, of course). Don't know exactly what they're planning this year. But Thanksgiving was pretty big this year, so I assume Christmas will be too. | re: How many people are at your holiday gathering? en>fr fr>en By mandakp Comments: 566, member since Fri Aug 05, 2011On Thu Dec 22, 2011 04:05 PM
I'm spending Christmas with my boyfriend's family, so there will be 7 of us:
Mum, Mum's boyfriend, Tom, two sisters, one brother and me!
It'll be a big change from the larger Christmases my family normally has! | re: How many people are at your holiday gathering? en>fr fr>en By Soleil2213 Comments: 1300, member since Tue Sep 14, 2004On Thu Dec 22, 2011 04:17 PM
Usually 11 of us for breakfast, and then 15 for lunch. Christmas Eve with my in-laws is just the 7 of us, unless we go to dinner at his Aunts, then it is 20+.
Thanksgiving is the big meal with the in-laws. There were 50 people there this year! | re: How many people are at your holiday gathering? en>fr fr>en By bethnee_rose Comments: 251, member since Sun Jan 03, 2010On Thu Dec 22, 2011 05:36 PM
When I read this in Louise's post;
"There'll be eight and a half of us."
I went "OMG Louise is pregnant!" Haha.
Anyway, there will be 5 - 8 of us | re: How many people are at your holiday gathering? en>fr fr>en By Dream_chaser Comments: 24025, member since Thu Jul 26, 2001On Thu Dec 22, 2011 08:16 PM
This year will be small. My daughter must work that day, so she cannot come but she will send my granddaughter and we will celebrate the night before at her home. My mom, brother, sister and her husband will join my husband and me.
We have a larger group showing up for New Year's Eve. | |

Three! Me, mum and dad, will probably have Christmas sandwiches on the deck.
When my kids come back from their dad's after New year's, we'll have Christmas then, but still only five. | re: How many people are at your holiday gathering? en>fr fr>en By Odessa Comments: 10641, member since Wed Feb 27, 2002On Fri Dec 23, 2011 04:35 AM
Four on Christmas Eve - my sister and her boyfriend are coming to Mark's and my house for drinks and fingerfood, and to do our gift-giving. Looking forward to this, it'll be lovely.
Then Christmas Day is at my aunt's, for 13 people. This will be LESS lovely. I am actually anticipating it to be miserable and hellish. Thank god for wine.
Erin.

9 at Martin's on Christmas day, then four in the afternoon at Mums. | re: How many people are at your holiday gathering? en>fr fr>en By IrishLizzy Comments: 2990, member since Wed Jul 28, 2004On Fri Dec 23, 2011 07:16 AM
It's a small one for me. There will be five of us or seven if you include my dogs; my mom and dad, my brother and his girlfriend and me...plus the dogs .
I've always wanted to have a big family get together, but we aren't close with my extended family unfortunately. | re: How many people are at your holiday gathering? en>fr fr>en By Cadbury_Eater Comments: 7191, member since Sun Jan 05, 2003On Sat Dec 24, 2011 06:25 AM
We normally have just the seven of us, estranged from other family. | ReplySendWatch
