I'm just curious because I've been seeing this lately - people giving karma for photos.

In some of the funny/comedic general threads, I've noticed karma for pictures too, but I don't see it as a bad thing, or against the rules necessarily. I think it's different than the thread just full of pictures that gets karma - that's against the rules. If a post has a picture in it that's relevant to the topic and contributes positively/comedically, is that against the rules to be karma'd? I've both received and given karma in this manner and not been called out, so I'd like to know as well.

I think we've loosened our views on it. There was a time when karma was really being abused for such things, and as time went on we have seen pictures really add to the content of the site, be helpful, and start discussions.

I think also, back in the day, there was no box like we have now where you type in a reason for the Karma. You just gave Karma.

When the box to leave a reason was introduced if I remember rightly, most of the no karma threads on the photos boards were locked because members leaving a reason meant there was less Karma abuse.

Claire.

Can I give karma to any photo threads now?

Because sometimes people's photos on the photography board are amazing. What about on members photo boards and that?

If I remember right, one of the reasons that started the rule were that people were giving karma to pictures that members took of themselves dancing. I guess it wasn't considered fair that the more talented dancers were getting karma for pictures when the posts wasn't necessarily helpful or funny or anything like that.

^Actually that was never the reason. We don't really care about good dancers getting more karma. There used to be A LOT of abuse on the disco boards. As soon as people got a new costume they were giving karma because someone got a new costume, they liked it, or they thought it was a pretty color and thought that was a nice gesture. Now, that forum is good to go and we have seen how much pictures can impact the site and discussions.

Yes, you can give karma to pictures...not a problem if we can see that it is karma worthy. If you are doing it just to boost someone's karma then we'll remove it.
