Good body placement for tattoo? en>fr fr>en

I'm thinking of getting a tattoo of a tiger lily, just the flower part and not the stem, possibly with a dragonfly sitting on it. I can't really figure out where to put it on me though. Obviously I want it as big as it needs to be so it'll age well and the quality won't be sacrificed. Pretty much the only place that is not an option would be my arms. Any ideas?

Back, shoulder blade, hip, and thigh are the four that come to mind immediately. It's really a personal decision, though. Since you said you didn't want it on your arms, I went with places that are easy to cover. If you're a first timer, I wouldn't recommend foot or ribs. Your feet can be a pain to heal (and quite frankly aren't a great surface area) and ribs aren't much fun either. Some artists also won't do feet or ribs for your first tattoo, so that's something else to consider.

Do you want to be able to see it or do you not care? Do you sleep in a certain position that might make healing a tattoo in a certain spot painful/cumbersome? I sleep on my sides so healing my rib tattoos was less than fun. I don't really have anything on my back, so I never had to ask for help to put lotion on it. I can see pretty much all of my tattoos except the tiny one on my back. Give it some thought and see what you think will work best for you.

Thanks, PinUp! My initial idea was the right side of my lower back, but I'm starting to think of the inside of my ankle. I know you arent a professional but I do know you have lots of tattoo, but how big would you guess that tattoo would need to be? I'm a first timer and I'm definitely not going for ribs or the foot...I'm too much of a pansy lol with it being on the right side of my lower back, i obviously wouldn't see it as much but I could turn around and see it in the mirror. With the ankle, I'd be able to obviously see it much more, but I'm not sure if the space would be too small?

I have one on the outside of my right ankle that's about the size of a grapefruit. It's a rose with a key behind it. It's really more on my calf than my ankle because of the size. I would say you need it at least that big to get good detail and have it age well. I'm not sure how feasible it would be to put something of that size on the inside of your leg. It's also a pretty easy spot to sit for. As I recall, it was one of my easier tattoos.

Thanks! I think I'm leaning more towards my first idea of getting it on the right side of my lower back. I have scrawny ankles and after reading what you said, I highly doubt it would fit there in the appropriate size. I imagine the side of the back wouldn't hurt as much as other places?
