No, we were in the tower. We'd booked in the actual pyramid, but then we got an "upgrade" and the upgrade took is out into the tower.
No question, the Venetian was far and away nicer, but since we didn't spend a ton of time in the room anyway, we honestly didn't get alot of milage on having a nice room
And a friend on facebook recently went and stayed at the Wynn, and it made me think that the same people that did the design and decorating on the Venetian also did the Wynn, the rooms looked practically identical, lol...
The night we got there, there was some sort of concert, so rooms at the Venetian were going for about $900 a piece. Rooms at the Luxor were going for about $200. So we spend the night at the Luxor and hit it up town. |

As long as you aren't expecting a grand hotel you'll probably be fine. There are far worse hotels. I personally wouldn't stay there unless I had to...then again, I did stay at the Sahara before it was renovated, so I'm done with crappy Vegas hotels for my lifetime. |

^ Yeah, the rooms are $50 a night so I am not expecting a grand room in any way shape or form. I am just worried about the cockroaches.
I heard the "Towers" are newer and a lot more clean. I kind of want to stay in the actual pyramid, but I will take the "upgrade" if it means no cockroaches. |

We wanted to stay in the pyramid too! Other than the price issue, it was the whole reason we booked at the Luxor!
We found out from a cab driver that there had been a big concert the night we landed, so the Venetian had jacked their prices for the night, trying to keep concert goers out. The Luxor was full of screaming people in impossibly short skirts (most of whom did NOT have the gams to pull off the length of skirt they were wearing), so they had obviously not taken the same tact... |

Is Excalibur really supposed to be that bad? I stayed there in July and thought it was fine and was really cheap, my friend stayed at Stratosphere during the same time and I thought my room at Excalibur was alot nicer than hers. |

Well, it was when I stayed there, but that was almost 10 years ago however it was relatively new then. I didn't hear of any major restoration in the last 10 years, but when I went it was a dump, and housed the lowest class people behind Circus Circus. WOW trailer park trash. Glad to hear you didn't have a bad experience, makes me at least consider stepping foot into the place in the future.
The Stratosphere (so I've heard) is a dump too. It's actually located in the part of the strip with the most crime...at least that is what a police officer in Vegas told me. |

One of my bridesmaids stayed in Luxor with her boyfriend and loved it. She was in the pyramid and didn't have any complaints. This was October. The other two stayed in Imperial Palace and that place was hilarious - the first time I went in there was sick in the lift and all the carpets were sticky. They had a great time there though - if I turn up to a hotel and it's really tired or crappy or kitsch, I tend to just embrace the crappiness and enjoy it for what it is. My sister commented "I love that this is what Americans think is crap!" Like so much else it is what you make of it. |

Granted, I didn't stay in the Stratosphere, I just went to it, but yeah, it looked like it'd seen better days. Some good, quality time spent with a carpet shampooer wouldn't hurt the Stratosphere, I'm sayin'. |

I arrived safe and sound yesterday. Got sick on the Plane but other then that smooth travels. The luxor pyramid rooms are actually super nice and the carpets and bathrooms are super clean. Only a shower though no bathtub. There is also no wifi so i have to use my iphone to update.
Last night i walked the strip and went into the bellagio, ceasars palace, a few other Places. I was looking on ddn while we were walking to look at the suggestions you guys made. I couldnt find the mesa cafe!
We had to hail a cab on the way back because my heels werent making my feet happy. It was only about 10 bucks Pretax so it wasnt too bad.
My bf and i enjoyed the bellagio fountains alot and we want to eat at olives because then we can watch fountains.
Currently bf is at the gym and i am getting ready to go explore. On the plan is venetian, spa, shark tank, buffet at bellagio, skydiving off strastophere then tonight a show called "fantasy".
Please keep throwing in suggestions because i check this thread on my phone for options when we explore.
Ps it is freaking dry here! My skin is so dry! |

^Oh, that's so true, about the dryness. My nasal passages got so dry that I was having a little bit of blood come out every time I blew my nose while I was in Vegas this spring, and then the day after I got back, I felt my nose running and wiped the back of my hand across it and there was blood. So yeah, drink TONS of water at every possible opportunity. |

For Mesa Grill - go in to Casears, and walk around like you're going to go to their theatre. Mesa Grill is across the aisle from the theatre. When you see it, you'll know you've seen it. It's pretty hard to miss - Mesa is spelled out in giant neon letters right by the door, hah... |

My whole family is a bunch of cheap bastards (or poor broke farmers, take your pick), so we've stayed at both Excalibur and the Stratosphere.
I stayed with my grandparents one night at Excalibur when my aunt & uncle (who live in North Las Vegas) had other family in town and couldn't house all of us. Yeah, the casino/entertainment floor is a little ghetto, but our room was clean and quiet and we had a nice view to the mountains to the west overlooking the pool area. No one forces you to stay in the hotel you're sleeping in, so we would just walk around to the other hotels all the time. This was 2005.
My husband and I got a REALLY good deal for our honeymoon to stay at the Stratosphere. We had absolutely no issues with our room. The last night, we even upgraded to the honeymoon suite last minute, and it was pretty amazing. Everything was clean, the pool was on the roof of the 6th floor, so we didn't have to deal with lots of traffic noise, and the staff was top notch and pleasant to work with. Again, we didn't hang out extensively in the casino area, just walked around the tower mall and went to the top of the tower. The rest of the time, we'd walk down the strip or take the monorail up and down when we got tired. That was 2009.
Maybe we just have low standards, but as long as a room is clean, free of gross smells/stains, and quiet, I'm pretty happy with my stay. We never had a poor experience at either hotel.
YYD, yes drink LOTS of water while you're there! I'm glad you're having fun! |

The only time that I stayed in Vegas we stayed at LaConcha (which is a motel along the strip where we got woken up by a prostitute arguing with her pimp), and at Circus Circus... my parents wanted somewhere family friendly... uggg.. |

I have stayed at Treasure Island and The Mirage. I was with my family both times so they wanted a hotel that didn't have a lot of night clubs and things like that, and we loved staying there, granted this was many years ago. My brother typically stays at Ballys or Harrahs because of the central location but they are definitely less flashy therefore less expensive. But when you are spending little time in your room I think those hotels are pretty good for your money and would considering staying there next time I visit. My favorite thing, to be honest, was basically looking at all of the free entertainment like the fountains, little shows, street performers and just walking down Fremont street under the lights and peeking in all of the casinos. |

My bf tried to teach me how gambling is a waste. He just came out 150 bucks ahead on 2 cent slot machine and me 30 bucks. Not quite the lesson he hoped for. Cashed out!
Off to a show now! |
