Hello all!

I posted AGES ago that I was making a documentary about my ballet school's tour to China, so here it finally is. We went in April 2011 and were there till June. It was a long tour and I had a lot of random footage! This 50 minute film is a not entirely complete but I am so busy working on other projects currently I wanted to just get it out there.

www.youtube.com . . .

I hope you like! :D

The look of it like you all had fun but it was making me tired all the travel and practice you guys did to prep for the actual performance.

Well, I believe she said the film wasn't complete ... I would assume in terms of editing?

The camerawork itself and the shots were really nice. Very unusual angles (like Juliet walking up the stairs as the maid watches in the wings - most excellent).

I'd like to see some context. Like "Day 1, Day 2, etc." something like that. If you can add some narration, maybe intersperse the segments with dancer's speaking about what they were doing, or their thoughts. Or maybe begin each day with a famous quote. Just ideas, it really needs separation into more real time.

I think you have captured more than enough for a really compelling finished work though. I really think you have a very good eye and individual perspective, and I'd definitely be interested in seeing the final work.

Great job!

nycsylph, thank you so much for your feedback! And popergerm too! I will take it down from youtube now as it really needs work haha, but just wondered what the general consensus was for the feel of the footage.

I have tried another version with day 1, day 2 etc but it wasn't working with the footage. Largely because I didn't intend to make a documentary so the footage is random and scattered across the weeks we toured. But I will try that approach again!

I am saving up for a new camera with better quality for a start, and intend to sepend more time on the documentary making bit from now on!

Thank you again,

You're welcome, and the day 1, day 2 is only a suggestion.

With random footage like this, it has to have some sort of order to tie it together, so it's up to you how you want to handle that. I love that one scene so much (the one with Juliet walking up the stairs) that it might be the ending.

It gives sort of a nice finality if you don't want to make this into a more 'normal' documentary that is based on actual chronologically ordered events.

So do what you think is best. As I've said, you have so much lovely footage and captures that you can go in many direction!

And congrats on the new camera!

Jealous! So jealous! :P
