I think that it is appropriate for any girl to take care of her pubic hair in a way that it does not show. You will be wearing thong underwear, I assume, but your costumes themselves will probably have a bit more coverage to them. If you are worried about your hair showing, I think it would be appropriate to try and trim the hair to a shorter length and if you're still nervous to shave whatever area you wish.
Pubic hair is a part of your life from this point forward, so there's no reason to be squeamish about it: it's just hair that happens to grow around your genitals. My advice, since you sound young and inexperienced with pubic grooming, that you do some research before trying anything...the LAST Thing you want to be dealing with at a competition is a cut on your vulva because you tried to shave without learning HOW to shave the area first. |

Put on your leotard or your costume without any tights and see where you need to shave, it really is that simple. Shaving a leg crease is no different from shaving an armpit and it's part of being a dancer.
Swan Lake and hairy arm pits really doesn't cut it. |

Also be careful not to wear tight clothing the same day you shave and if you can manage it for a day after. This will decrease the likely hood of getting irritated down there. That is the worst! Make sure you moisturizer properly! Razor burn is horrible! |

I wrote a post on how to shave your pubic hair. It's under one of the FAQ's. |
