Ask a Judge Is it right for one studio in the city to pick ALL of the judges? (a little long) en>fr fr>en By ballet_girl510 Comments: 28, member since Sat Aug 27, 2011On Tue Dec 27, 2011 09:33 PM
There are multiple dance studios in my City (Thunder Bay Ontario Canada) in fact there are Aprox. 10. So every year the city hosts "The Music Festival" everyone refers to it as""festival" so "Studio One Dance" chooses the judges every year. and the rules state that any and all competitors may not know the judges. and another rule is that you may NOT have any previous experience on the competition stage. well every year 1 month before the competition the rent the community auditorium, which is the competition stage. So my point is how do the other studios in the city put an end to them cheating every single year? My studio does not compete in festival anymore due to Studio One stealing choreography and not just steps! THE ENTIRE DANCE! It is not a fair competition and I/We are fed up with it!

Which dance academy runs the dance section of the festival, if it's a committee which dance academy do most of the members come from? |

That's how it is with a lot of committee run festivals, the non dancers who run it just ask the people they think will know what they're talking about.
As far as stealing choreography just look upon yourselves as innovators, your teachers are so amazing that they even manage to teach dancers who aren't even in their school.
That's what I call a far reaching impact! |

Other than all of the dance schools, who are, or would like to be involved, talking to the organization, not much can be done.
Maybe, if another person offers to run it for them, they may consider.
I would never be involved and can't believe that they get away with it.
I will be judging in Canada, in the spring, and they hire from FAR away, so the judges do not know anyone. |

If you take a stand and don't attend the festival, who will they compete against? If they aren't willing to work with you, then you need to look elsewhere. |
