Some how I stumbled into this new "hair chalking" trend (I believe on pinterest). I saw that there was a product that you can buy to chalk your hair (it's chalk in a container) that was about $20. I can't find the product now, but I got to researching more about this and found that I can use my soft pastels from my piles of art supplies and give it a go.
I grabbed a bright turquoise color (as my hair is black) and gave it a go! The girl in the video above rubbed the chalk back and forth, but I just went one way to not hurt my hair. I sprayed with water, used chalk, let it dry (again, wet hair and heat is pretty frying), then I curled it, sealed it with hairspray (what I would use on my canvases when I did a pastel piece), and here's my result:
(taken about 5 minutes ago)
It looks a little frizzy so I'm going to play around with some oils and shine for it, but so far, I am so very happy with the results. I'm also wearing a black shirt around the house just to make sure that it doesn't rub off on clothes. The hairspray should have sealed it nicely, but we'll see!

I saw this on pinterest too and it looks so pretty (most of the time!) I also am curious how long it lasts...let us know! Depending on hair color, lighter or darker, it might last for different amounts of time but who knows. Yours looks awesome and I love the contrast.
Wow, that looks fantastic! I'd love to know how it lasts and how your hair copes with it. My hair's pretty delicate but I'd love to be able to experiment with colour without having to commit to battling regrowth.
That looks so cool!I'm definatly going to try that sometime. I also heard you can do the same thing with bright eyeshadow, but this looks thike it would work WAY better.
I added another shade of blue in there, and went to bed. Today it looks pretty great, and all the girls at my work are amazed by this. I also feel like a dork talking about chalk this much.
I'm going to wash my hair tonight, so I'll let everyone know how well that goes. =)

I'm actually a little scared to try this, just out of fear it won't wash out. Dyed blonde hair is good for retaining things, heh...
I am glad you said this. I am getting my hair back to it's natural blond in 54 minutes (!!) and I was thinking about trying this out sometime next week. I think I will try a very tiny section and see how it goes.

^Yeah, you throw open the cuticle, and dump out the contents, and the hair will happily hold on to whatever else you put in in its place. I told this story on the teacher board too, but I used that pink hairspray on dyed blonde hair, and had pink hair for a week. :/

Yeah, I don't do anything where I couldn't have pink or purple hair, and the only person that'd likely object would be my mom and I'm not likely to see her for a while, so it'd be cool if it stuck, but even still, it makes me nervous.
