Hello DDN,

I'm looking at getting my first tattoo this summer and I'm debating on what I should get. I have known for years that i've wanted a tattoo placed on my hip. I've faced many struggles in my life and i want this to be a way of saying I made it thru and am still fighting. I want it to be inspirational and short. I dont want a long quote. Any and all sugguestions are welcome! thanks again!

Just my personal feelings about a few of these quotes because I see them a lot. They can seem a little like cliche platitudes and are kind of grand statements that really can mean very little:

"Love Conquers All"- Love doesn't really conquer all in my opinion. It wont conquer cancer or starvation or any number of things. People who love each other still do awful things to each other. Love will help you survive things, enrich your life and all that, but every time I hear this statement I think it sounds very naive and cliche.

"Happiness Is A Choice"- Tell that to someone with clinical depression! But really, you can choose to be optimistic, or positive...but there are times in life when you cannot simply chose to be happy- like after a parents death.

That is just what I think when I hear those two, if they have special meaning to YOU, then you can ignore whatever I say because the tattoo is going to be on your body, not mine.

I agree with Madseason's comments, I think those two are a bit, well, empty for me. That said, what does it matter what some random people think in a poll if you're going to have this on you for the rest of your life? If you're looking for inspiration, which one inspires you the most? To be honest if you're having to post this then i'll guess that none of them are 'the one' because given the kind of reaction you're trying to get from yourself with this tattoo, I think it's the kind of thing where you'll find the one you want and you'll just know.

What part of your hip were planning on placing it? Side? Front? Personally, I wouldn't get a word tattoo on my hip. I have words on my forearms and back, but I don't think the hip will age well. Plus, it's not a flat surface which can be a challenge. You'd need a darn good tattooist to be able to wrap around you and not distort things too much.
