I've recently moved into a brand new townhouse, and I need help brightening up my lounge room. We have a HUGE (probably 3 metre long) white wall, and it really needs breaking up.

Unfortunately our lease specifies that we can't stick anything (blu tak, wall decals, temporary hooks) to the walls, so anything I do put up needs to be able to hang from permanent wall hooks, which we have to apply to have installed.

Anyway, I'm stuck! At my old place my walls were covered with postcards, photos and magazine prints, but it's so much harder to decorate when you can't just stick something on the walls! I realise we could just hang photos and paintings, but I'd rather do something a little more creative and unique.

So, hit me with your suggestions, inspirations & any websites/blogs you think might help. Thanks in advance!

there are sticky tabs that are made to stick on painted/papered walls without causing damage, you could maybe suggest those and discuss it?

you could even say that IF anything were to happen that you would repaint (im assuming its painted) the wall.
I know some places, upon agreement, will allow you to paint etc so long as you put it back to how it was afterward.. i.e. the more you do the more work to put it back how it was. (obviously this would exclude removing original wallpaper or painting over patterned paper)

anyway,

for the wall hooks that you suggested... you could get a nice big wall hanging, blanket or similar that you like the design of.... a big piece of art? or buy a big canvas or two and paint/collage it yourself so its exactly what you want.
or you can get those wall hanging photo pockets and fill those with pictures.

personally i'd go with the canvas' option... two or three across the wall would look great and you can personalise them... you'd only need 3-6 screws/nails in the wall and you could fill the holes afterward. (if you find canvases, or additional fixings to add on, which have a little metal rectangle with 'teeth' like a saw in the middle of one edge that will allow you to hang from a single screw or nail.)

i dont know where you live but here in the UK there are lots of homeware stores that sell decorative printed canvases (or photo printing places who will print your photos onto canvases) if you dont feel confident enough to do your own.

The walls of my house are covered with "metal" decor, if that makes any sense. My mom loves those metal crosses and curly-q's and stuff like that! They don't generally come colorful, but thank goodness for spray paint, right?!
