I came across this picture recently and I just love it. It shows the many different ages and body types that ballet attracts. 7 Replies to It takes all types |

Nice picture, and it's true that everyone in it is different. But I'm still not sold on it as a demonstration of diversity. Consider for example:

One can also search Google for "ballet diversity." |

^ I see what you mean, greenpumpkin. Those girls all look to be around the same age and healthy (or close to) weights for their age. It looks like a typical ballet class to me. Perhaps not a class at a really prestigious and selective school, but the majority of dance school nonetheless. |

Although this picture was not taken at my dance studio, the dancers in this picture does look to be as diverse as the ones I see whenever I walk in. |

i dont think theyre that diverse really, when it comes to height yes, but theyre all thin and look as graceful as dancers.
Put me in that row and believe me you'll see diversity. |

I see what you mean, greenpumpkin...
And they're all white and female. Non-white people (especially African-Americans and Latinos) and buys are both incredibly under-represented in ballet schools. Also, very little age diversity is shown here, these are all children. |

Can't argue with that, speaking as a Latino woman. |
