^Unfortunately she does that every episode. I get that way too sometimes when I'm counting (8 counts)out loud for my students through a really long section of a routine, but I have asthma. She could have asthma too I don't know. She always talks that way when she talks to the girls too up close. I'm not sure if it's her 'softer' voice that she uses when she doesn't need to be loud or if it's an issue with asthma or something else. |

She could have had laryngitis from a cold or done like I used to do, before I realized shouting at anyone was useless, and get laryngitis. |

Wanna bet the Dance Moms moms are all over this? (I am sure Melissa would not pass up a chance for Maddie to be crowned America's Best Kid Dancer) |

Someone had mentioned they didn't understand the Cheer Tryouts and said it couldn't have been right, well you were RIGHT.
Someone from the school has spoken up and said the tryouts were staged and the real tryouts had taken place the previous Spring. Brooke never tried out for cheerleading, it was all fake. They said if you look closely her tutor was used one of the 'judges'. So Brooke didn't really quit dance for cheerleading. This was all staged for drama, and to allow for the Peyton/Leslie drama too I'm sure.

So Chloe was ontop of the pyramid this week, yet originally Nia gets the starring role in the group dance, then it is given to Payton. Where is Chloe in that equation, yes she started off the dance, but are they not suppose to be 'featured' in the group if they are ontop.
Then there is the comment that Paige has been in the trio since she was four, she is currently 10 correct? So Chloe, Maddie and Paige did a trio when they were 4, 3, and 4? |

Abby said that Chloe got to perform a solo for being at top of the pyramid. Seems there's no consistency on what being at the top means. |

That is pretty common for us. Kids as young as 3 do solo's |

WTF? She has a cold. Or laryngitis. I don't see what that has to do with her weight. Are we really dumping on fat people now? What a great example we're setting in the teacher's forum. And we wonder why so many of our young students have eating disorders. SHAME!
If you bothered to watch the show on a regular basis, you would know that this happens to her all the time. I am in no way making fun of her weight (when did I say that?). I am simply pointing out the fact that excess weight can exacerbate asthma (if she already has it). AND excess weight can make you tired after choreographing for an hour and then having to talk on camera. If you actually read what I said, I never said anything demeaning about her weight.

Talking on camera is strenuous for fatties? Is that SERIOUSLY what you're saying? Two words: Mia Michaels. If you actually read what I said, I never said anything demeaning about her weight. Obviously, I can't read what you SAID. I can only read what you WROTE. And I think YOU need to reread what you wrote. People do not get asthma because they're fat. That's offensive. |

Edited by imadanseur (79325) on 2012-02-06 22:26:20 part of this should have been a pm, and mods took care of a personal attack. administrative questions need to be directed to the owner of the site or a moderator.
And not that I need to even respond to you, but I write for a medical journal, and I know what I'm talking about. I never once said that asthma is caused by weight, I actually said that being overweight can exacerbate an already existing condition (like asthma). Mia Michaels is not even close to being as heavy as Abby and Mia Michaels actually dances (instead of standing around and yelling at little kids all day). I am a heavier teacher, and I would NEVER pick on someone because of his/her weight. How dare you insinuate that I would. |

I am missing the part where Abby is being made fun of for being overweight. I saw it mentioned that her weight could be a contributing factor to her messed up voice. (And yes, it is that way on every single episode. It's not a cold.) That's simply a fact, not ridicule. I suppose if you were insistent on being offended, you could take it as ridicule. I find it much easier to pick my battles. |

Back to discussing the show, I just wondered about how they always show Abby sitting in the audience watching the dances. Do you sit in the audience or watch from backstage. Generally we are always backstage with the kids right before their number and almost always stay there, occasionally I can remember teachers going to watch their own numbers from the front but only if there is immediate access to the audience from backstage, and almost always another teacher is left backstage with the students. I cant ever remember teachers watching their own numbers if they were below sr.
Just curious as to what other people do. |

I watch my competition numbers from the audience so I can see any staging problems that need adjusting. (I always wish them luck & make sure all the dancers are present when they line up a few numbers before their turn.) I like to see how it looks from the audiences' perspective. |

The local competitions we attend are all staged in a huge hotel's ballroom; there is no backstage. Some vendors hang curtains, so there are wings for entry/exit, but not a lot of room there either. The last comp we went to asked that no one wait in the wings except the dancers who were next up. Therefore, once I know my students are queued up properly, I sit in the audience. (And one competition was even nice enough to have reserved seats in the front row for each of the registered SO's - I got to meet some of my peers that way.) |

I am done with my job. If my kids can't dance, and enter without me, they are not ready to compete, so I watch them from the front, too. It also gives the kids pride to see us cheering them on and smiling. Even if they mess up, while dancing, I never show it. |
