She had laryngitis, it was obvious. If it were asthma, she would not be talking like she had it. She would have been breathing hard and, I doubt, on film at that moment.

I don't think that weight should be an issue, or even discussed. I could care less if she were emaciated or 900 lbs. That has nothing to do with her personality. I know many, wonderful and kind, overweight teachers and some skinny ones who are like Abby.

It bugs me, to no end, when weight is brought up. I see it on some of the net posts, that they bring up and insult her weight. If I could smack them all in the head, I would.

I honestly have never noticed her talking like that in any other episode. Ever.

When she started sounding raspy last episode, my only thought was "oh, she must have a cold".

I saw the first episode, and checked out part of that one. I don't hear anything wrong with her voice in the first one. It just sounds like her voice.

It's like that at some point in nearly every episode.

It could be some type of laringitis (sp?), but it could also be this thing (not sure exactly what its called), but a lot of singers and cheerleaders develop a condition where they get growths on their vocal chords from continuos straining of the voice. It causes recurring loss of voice and a raspy strained voice even from just short periods of over use sometimes and you would need to have surgery to get the growths removed.

It COULD be a LOT of things. That was my point. She has never said anything about having asthma, and in any case, asthma doesn't make you talk like that. Duh. I'm sure there are plenty of reasons to criticize her, but turning this into a COMPLETELY UNFOUNDED discussion about her weight is not ok.

Dance Moms is great. I love this show, even if it's over the top and straight up insane sometimes.

^ But oh my gosh, Ice Moms?! I've never fully experienced the level of crazy shown on DM with any of the kid's parents I've danced with (a few old friends of mine come close, though) but I think the world of ice skating has potential to definitely have crazy parents. When I was little I was obsessed with figure skating - literally obsessed - and my mom wouldn't let me start because she didn't want to deal with the other parents.

I'm pretty sure there are some crazy parents in every sport really.
What will be interesting to see is, when it's about ice skating, which is an olympic sport, if people will still criticize the coaches as much as they criticize Abby Lee.

I'm not sure who you are referring to....are you on the right thread? Asthma isn't a condition of being overweight. I sound like that when I'm teaching and I have asthma, which is the only reason why I made the comparison. I get winded counting routines, giving long speeches, etc., and sound just like that, it stinks, and yes people DO blame it on my weight unfortunately, but I never brought up weight in this thread.

Tvguide.com was way off on it's description of tonight's episode, unless I fell asleep and missed some of it. It said 1 of Abby's girls gets fed up and auditions for Crazy Apple? Did that happen last night?

Wow, In our region, NOTHING comes close to the crazy of ice skater parents, both figure and hockey moms. If this show was filmed in our region it would be explosive drama.

I have asthma too, so please stow your condescension. And I know this is going to come as a SHOCK, but not everything is about you. I never said you brought up weight because I wasn't talking about you or your posts.

They are in all children's activities. I know that the gym where my granddaughter takes gymnastics, the team parents are not allowed to be like that. If they are, kids are tossed out of the school, not just the team. The owners are fabulous, kind and do not raise their voices to train the kids. They are Olympians from a European country, so soft-spoken and the kids are amazing.

It comes from the top. If you don't allow it, it does not happen, but then again, Lifetime does not want nice, normal people.

Well it's kinda hard to pinpoint who you were referring to when no one made this into a demeaning discussion about her weight, except for maybe you.

Take your trolling elsewhere please. Thanks.

I think this is what panic was referring to. Plus this is what he quoted in his original comment.

My fiance just asked me about that the other night. He was like, "What's up with her voice?" I honestly think that when she's been talking a lot (or walking and talking), that she can't catch her breath and starts talking like that. It's very likely a direct result of her weight. I wouldn't be surprised if she has some kind of asthma.

I do remember a weight vs asthma remark, as noted in the last post. That is why I made my comments.

I love that Leslie doesn't know who Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise are, but she knows about Abby Lee Miller. Hilarious.

There is a time and place and in discussions, no right and wrong but we should not go to the preteen mindset. I know, at age 57, I am beyond that.

We can state facts, we can state opinions, but we should always do it with respect, even if we feel that we are right. N'est pas?

If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance for you. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose.

Ditto. That's exactly what I was thinking.

But honestly, I think that I've heard the parents on the show poke more fun at Abby for her weight than here on the boards. And they are extremely harsh about it. The girls on the show act more mature than the adults do most times.
