Pretend: You were invited to the royal wedding! What would you wear? en>fr fr>en

If you were to get an invitation to the Royal Wedding (...pretend it hasn't happened...), what would you wear? Post your favorite dresses, favorite hats, favorite shoes, favorite fascinators!

(Okay, so there's an ulterior motive here... I'm going to Ireland for my cousin's lavish wedding and need ideas, hehe!)

Edited by Scarlet (194795) on 2012-01-11 23:15:31 Naughty little apostrophe escaped and found it's way into my post. I have locked it away in the dungeon to have a long hard think about the havoc it has created.
A Sex Pistols T-shirt and no pants.

Possibly boots if it's warm out.

Okay, I'm going all matchy-matchy here, because it seemed that's how everyone was at the Royal Wedding so I'm guessing it's kind of a traditional look? Anyway, I'm really loving the idea of the Little Blue Dress! And this color is definitely something that would work at a wedding that you describe as lavish. So I've got a few examples of royal blue dresses, and one that has a matching coat (which seems oh so Brit to me) and simple shoes so that the fancy blue fascinator is the star and a clutch with a little feathering to mirror the fascinator. Oh, and some simple earrings.

I would wear the emerald colour dress that Keira Knightley wore in Atonement, with a peacock feather hat.

^For the royal wedding, since it was a church wedding, didn't everyone's shoulders have to be covered? I know we're just playing pretend here, but I think that's standard for a lot of churches, so it might be something for the OP to keep in mind as well.

Yup in most churches in Europe I'd expect shoulders to be covered. You wouldn't get thrown out if you didn't, but you might get a few old ladies tutting at you.

Also, having been to lots of weddings in England and Ireland, I've never seen people wear full length gowns as guests. Maybe in the height of summer, but usually people go knee/tea length. Some of the weddings were pretty fancy too.

That being said...I'd wear:

Dress (without that cardigan or tights)

I would wear something as close to a plain garment as I could get away with without being thrown out.

1) Rodarte Fall 2011 dress.
2) Manolos.
3) Jason Wu clutch.

Hey, it's the Royal Wedding! Might as well go all out, right? ;)

I'm putting off the idea of a hat or a fascinator, though. I just have no idea. I'm NOT a hat person, so I'd probably wait until the last minute and just snatch up the first thing I see, haha.

I made this dress to wear to a "black tie" wedding, and it was right on par with what the other guests were wearing. I had a matching necklace of clear and blue rhinestones (barely visible in the photo), a bracelet of clear rhinestones, and I had hairpins in my hair with clear rhinestones. Just to sparkle things up a bit :) The dress did not look as wrinkled as it does in the photo-- satin does funny things when the light shines on it. I actually kept that in mind when selecting fabric: I went for the matte satin rather than shiny. The problem would have been much worse if I'd selected shiny. Definitely something to watch out for when dress-shopping.

I just came back from a Catholic wedding in England. I wore a navy blue Marilyn dress and a mustard yellow cardi. I was also in the wedding so I matched the colors. Are you going to Northern Ireland or the Republic? That might have a lot to do with your outfit.
