I always smile when Sumayah calls her car by name but I can't name my cars. I can't even really assign gender to them.

I had a hard enough time naming my children and most of our dogs were rescues and came with names. We do refer to them by their "given names", like The Tourareg, or The Jetta, but not always. The Saffari and Astro Vans were simply, The Van, but the MG Midgets were just "the Midget". I guess we're not very sentimental about cars. My kids do call my car, The Beamer, but I just refer to it as, My Car.

Only one. My husband and I named the first car we bought together back around 1962 "The Blue Shark". It was one of those huge, gas-guzzling '50's models with fins and looked a lot like the one above, except it was turquoise blue. Although it was used it was in acceptable shape and was what we could aford at the time.

Never have. I tried calling it "The Mom-mobile" for a while, it didn't stick. A crazy number of moms at our studio drive the same make of car as me, it's weird. I drive a 2005 Chevy Equinox, and I ADORE that car. I'll be sad to see it go, haha...

My first car was Blueie (a blue Ford Escort)
My second car was Blane Blane (a blue Chevy Blazer)
And my current car is Clifford (a red Corolla)

My friends and I started naming our cars in high school and it kind of stuck as we got new cars!

My first car was Ethel or "Ethel the Little Green Tank". Ethel was an ancient R reg Clio in grandad green. She was also very boxy looking and had no power steering so was heavy to handle, hence the tank reference.
Sadly Ethel sacrificed herself for me when I flipped her down the m60 and miraculously walked away. RIP Ethel.

My current car is Katy, or KAty to be precise. She is a black (sexy) KA. Get it? KAte I the south, got to keep up appearances after all.

You have great taste! My car's name is also Bibi (pronounced beebee)! I also call him Little Bee.

I am also on a similar naming trend ... my laptop's name is Bobo and my phone's name is Booboo. And I convinced my boyfriend to name his new laptop Popo

My mom's 1989 Mercury Topaz had difficulty getting going sometimes, so we would always say "come on Betsy", and the name Betsy stuck.

Once that car became my car (drove it to the ground), mom got another car, and she and my sister named it Annabelle - "Annie" for short. That car also became my car, and I drove it into the ground.

My new-to-me car (Kia Rio) I got to name, and I named her Roxie.

My boyfriend is restoring a 1959 Cadillac that I was going to call "Peggy Sue", but the car has given my boyfriend so many injuries, we've started to call her "Christine", after the Stephen King novel...

My first car was a 2000 Chevy Malibu which my dad creatively called "Mali" (it was my mom's/the family car before it was mine). Then before I got my current car when Mali died, I drove my mom's car "Sylvia" the Silver Hyundai Sonata, lol.

My current car is a Chrysler Sebring. I got it last August but I just named it "Cecilia" three days ago after I hit a dear.

Yes, I have. My two current SAAB's have their names on their respective license plates. With two previous cars, 1) a '83 Dodge/Mitsubitchi Challanger (for those old enough to remember that make). I named her "Bi%$& Car" because of so many problems I had with it. My other car that I named I called "Beast Car" because it was my "winter rat" (those in the North East US will understand). She was a '86 Crysler Caprice,---a real road tank.

Yup! My whole family names their cars. I'm going with the Muses.

Calliope was my 97 Corolla. I totalled her in March 2010. Now I have Melepomene, aka Melly, a 2008 Ford Escape. I think the next one will be Thalia.
