I am beyond stressed out right now. I feel like I will never finish college. I recently posted about not having enough money to attend school in the spring and how I owed back payments of tuition. Well I finally got everything sorted out at the last minute. I was able to take out an additional loan to cover what I owed for fall so I'm able to register for classes now which start Tuesday.

I failed Organic/Biochem two springs ago. The prof was a nut. He was consistenly losing our grades and lab reports. I ended up fighting him because I did not believe I failed and lost because I had no proof of my grades because we weren't allowed to keep any lab reports or tests or quizzes. Last spring I did not take the class because I was already registered for 5 classes and two days of internship plus I was working. The class is the last step before you can start your upper division classes.

So I go to register for this class since it's only offered in the spring and I was told in the fall that it would be available and the class is gone! I contact my advisor/department head to ask her about it and she tells me starting this semester that class is being replaced by two seperate classes a general chemistry class that introduces organic chemistry and the next semester biochemistry. The biochemistry portion is only offered in the spring so that means I would have to wait another year to take biochem so I wouldn't be able to take any upper divisions classes until Fall of 2013 then I would still have four semesters left until I could graduate which means I wouldn't be able to graduate until Spring 2015!!!

I wrote her an email asking if I could take the classes together this semester but I know she isn't going to agree to that. If I have to wait that long I think I will switch my major.

Are there any other colleges in your area? See if you can take the biochem class at another college and transfer the credits. Biochem is a pretty common subject so unless you school is the only one for miles and miles, I'm sure you can find the class at another school.

Though now that I think about it, I did have a professor last year that wouldn't let us keep exams and I encountered that a few times in high school too. Maybe all students who encounter that should take pictures of their graded work with their phone in case a professor tries to dispute you. Hopefully it doesn't come to that for most professors, but there's always a bad apple.

Thanks for the quick response. I received an email shortly after posting this and she is approving me to take both chemistry classes this semester. So I'm in for a treat. The reason why they eliminated the class I failed was because of that professor. He received numerous complaints from students and from other faculty. He was failing a ton of people and the concepts we were taught were chemistry graduate levels. We had a GA who was on her last semester of grad school sub in one class and she said she was studying the same concepts the semester before and this was a sophomore level organic/biochem class. It was supposed to a dumbed down version of organic and biochem for health majors. I'm happy they worked out the problem but irritated that I will always have the F on the transcript since the class no longer exists.

I find it odd that they knew the guy was a problem, enough so to rework the whole the sequence of classes because of him, and that he was teaching graduate work, and yet they let failing grades stand and are making you take two more classes. To me it seems like they just want your money by making you pay extra for another two classes. I understand if they don't give you all A's, but maybe just change it to a P, or give everyone a B and if they want to take it again for a higher grade, they can? I'm glad your situation got figured out, but that would really make me mad. Hopefully having the two classes with a new prof will help you out and you'll really master the material. :)

Publish, Publish, Publish!

That's what I did when I underwent college abuse - and since it could be done 50 years ago, it certainly can be done today.

Admittedly, I had to submit to seven publishers before one accepted the story, but I got my saga published where it would do the most harm. "The School Counselor" was a publication directed at those who advise high school students where to apply and what obstacles they might encounter.
