Towards the end of October I gashed my right knee on a rock and had various cuts and grazes, but the big one was a very deep 1.5-2inch long cut, about 6-7mm wide. They didn't stitch it, although it probably needed it. It healed fairly nicely, scabbed over quite quickly although at one point the scab was dark green which I didn't like so I picked it off which was probably unwise but it didn't look right at all. Anyway we're now over two months on and it doesn't look right still, but I've never had a scar this big so I'm not sure what's normal or not.
Since the scar formed I've been using bio-oil, but after a few weeks I noticed the new skin was peeling and flaking off, so I stopped. It's still happening whether I use the bio-oil or not so I use it every other day. It goes DARK purple, almost black, when I'm cold. I can't kneel on it at all. Looking closely at it, it almost looks like there are bubbles of blood under the surface. It hurts from time to time as well.
Any ideas? Is this what normally happens? 4 Replies to Scar not healing very well |

You've got the NHS right? Go to the hospital, or urgent care. You might have an infection under the skin and need some antibiotics. If you go to the GP you run the risk of the GP just giving you some amoxycillin and sending you on your way, but if you go to the hospital or urgent care you're more likely to actually have it investigated properly, wound swab, gram stain etc, so they can find out if it is an infection and how best to treat it.

^ Jeez I didn't think it would be serious! Would it help if I posted a picture? I'll try and get one, please excuse the slightly hairy leg.
^^ It's raised, very much so. |

Do you have any other raised scars? It's possible it's a keloid or hypertrophic scar, but I second Erin. Go get it looked at. Your first treatment was at an island hospital, after all. I just assumed you had had some kind of follow up care when you got back home, but since not, definitely get thee into the doctor!!
