Hi everyone, there's a post on the disco page from someone called Sky dancewear. They're asking to be added on facebook for a chance to be sponsered. Once you add them they ask for you to send a video of you/your child dancing.
I just feel its a bit suspicious. I've never heard of them and i've also googled them and they dont show up. If this was a genuine designer would they ask a child to send them a video of themselves???
Just warning everyone and trying to keep our kids safe, you just never know.

Just had a look at their profile on here and no bio has been posted but on the info page on fb there is a link to an address but thats all perhaps they can verify themselves?

Just had a look too. Honestly, I'd be wary. Posting designs of costumes that have been done on a computer using Paint? They don't look overly professional. I would never post a vid or photo of my son on a page who I didn't know was going to view it, but that's just my opinion. But then again, I'm of the opinion that if you were meant to be sponsored, one of the designers would approach you, not judge off a bunch of random videos.

I thought the same Kirsty, unprofessional looking designs and the fact that a designer would normally approach a child's dance teacher/parent at a comp once seeing them dance in person, not from a video.
Am glad I'm not the only one being overly suspicious.

Thanks for highlighting this...it has "child protection issues" written all over it. It defo looks dodgy. I've reported it, let's hope that something gets done about it x

I've asked this company for more info to prove they are genuine, they keep deleting my posts????

This page has this recent status update -

"Hi, just to let everyone know, the page is being deleted in 14 days as facebook can not delete in now(dont know why). Im not dangerous and made a huge mistake with that post. Im a little inexpirienced and thats why i made the wrong choice with what i was posting. Sorry again."

This was 37 mins ago. Let's hope this was a fake page being made or monitored by a child (due to the spelling/grammar mistakes) and nothing more sinister. I'd be absolutely concerned if anyone had actually emailed videos.

Don't post pics/vids of your kids when you are not 100% sure where they're going or who will view them! And warn your kids not to post vids or pics of themselves to strangers!!! Exercise a little caution parents, I would say 99% of designers in freestyle will approach you or your dance teacher to offer or discuss a sponsorship.

Hi, this was a girl in year 7 in my school in ireland. She was crying cause people were sending her nasty messages when she didnt mean to do any harm. Just confirming, as if i were in this position id be very frightened too. xxxxxxx

^Why would she want video's of children? This is all a bit weird.

Skydancewear have now been reported and deleted from Facebook. Whether this was an 11 year old child or a 55 year old weirdo i'm sure we'll never really know. I'm glad we all worked together in keeping our kids safe.

It has been reported to CEOP and the police. Everything that goes online is traceable though IP addresses etc apparently, so whoever created the page will be tracked down and checked out. So whether it was a lying 11 year old, misleading innocent children, or a weirdo adult, exploiting children, they will be traced and dealt with accordingly. the postcode in Wallasey and the mobile number have also been noted.

I'm glad this has been deleted too. My initial thought was that it was a child, due to the costumes drawn using the Paint program, and also the spelling/grammar - it seemed to me a young child's writing.

But you have to ask, (if it was an 11 yr old) then what was going through said 11yr olds mind to run a 'sponsorship' competition and actually ask for videos?? MillerTash - to say this child was frightened and crying due to what had happened - how do you think the parents of children who had sent videos felt?? I expect they were extremely frightened at who was going to be viewing those videos. 11 years old is a sensible enough age to know that this whole situation is wrong, plain and simple.

Glad this has been removed anyway - be safe on the internet kids! Never send photos or videos to anyone you don't specifically know!
