Looks like ZandB is having a secret affair with Louise Anywhooo...
The "real" and only problem I have with karma, is that sometimes people use it as a way of being a douchebag without actually having to contribute to a thread. For example, a person once didn't like what I had to say and it was obvious she was super pissed off at me. On the actual thread she posted something along the lines of " we truly care about you...." but on a karma reason to another person she said something along the lines of " I can't stand her!".
This lead to a 2 page confusion where people thought this member was actually nice to me. They thought I was overreacting etc, until THEY read her karma comment.
When people use "good" ( karma) to rag on other members, and don't have the guts to do it on the actual thread, it kind of bothers me.
And no, I am not going to go provide this example because I essentially called this member's actions a douchebaggish. If you have a keen memory, you may remember what happened. |

I think you must have missed part of this thread, I'll quote it again just so that it does not escape your attention.
We really try not to focus our time on figuring out if karma is valid. There was a time when karma abuse was rampant. It isn't that way anymore. The feedback we've gotten for providing a mandatory reason outweighs the reasons to get rid of it. People like knowing why they got karma, it USUALLY promotes more positive and loving connections.
If karma doesn't matter to some of you then stop giving it so you don't have to give mandatory reasons and stop asking for it. Simple as that.
Karma is something that is supposed to be a fun light hearted thing, it is something that makes the site unique, and I'd really hate to see that go away over some of the bickering in this thread.
If it really is that important to you, you could do what most people do and Mod report the post and ask the Mod team to act on it instead of stirring and that's what this post is. |

I thought about it. I've Mod reported plenty of things in the past. I wasn't sure which of the numerous posts in question to report or if I should do all of them etc.
My intent was not "stirring." I am a rule following type of person and I thought there were rules about karma. Apparently I am wrong and there are not. I was wrong about the karma for pictures (even though the threads about no karma for pictures were still up). So, I guess I am wrong here too. One person versus the majority - I've been in this situation many times. |

^hey, I understand why you feel that way. But keep in mind that the moderators aren't responsible for all this drama. I instigated it, and then Macbeth's witches ran with it. And now the moderators are stuck trying to figure out how to keep the peace. This is not their fault, and I'm sure they really are taking into consideration everything we say on this thread.
Look, we all get frustrated sometimes with the way policies are enforced on DDN. If you stick around long enough, you're GUARANTEED to be pissed off by something eventually. But that's true of EVERY organization. So while I think this discussion is valid and healthy for us to have, we all need to keep in mind that what we're discussing is not really important. DDN does provide a LOT of important things to its members - support, communication, information, camaraderie, blah, blah, blah. But karma is just silliness. It's good for us to discuss these issues, but it's not good when karma starts to seem more important than the truly significant things we all get from DDN. Let's just make sure we keep this all in perspective.
OK, that said, I also have an admission to make. I'm sorry to say that I think this thread has been understandably upsetting to Louise - who bears no responsibility for ANY of this drama. And I read on some thread that she thinks I'm mad at her. Well, I just want to clear that up by saying that I am and have always been madly in love with Louise. I was madly in love with her when I only read her posts on DDN. And then when I saw a picture of her, I realized she was absolutely beautiful (HOTWEEZY!). She's also incredibly funny, and DAMN she's smart. Even when she disagrees with me, I always end up thinking she's awesome because she's so flippin brilliant. I just can't express how much I appreciate her posts. It's unexpressable. I truly think she's a genius. So I just wanted to say publicly that I LOVE LOVE LOVE and appreciate Louise SO MUCH. She deserves all the karma she has and then some. I love me some Weezy! |

Oh, I have no problem with the threads you start/ed about karma, Panic. It is the insane response to it. I still think it is ridiculous that some people can't tell when you are joking (which is quite often). |

Can I just say that panic's previous post was so thoughtful that I feel like I am missing something and that it was actually meant tongue-in-cheek? But I keep re-reading it and in fact, it does seem kind and sincere.
I'm scared. |

^ I always have to end up rereading posts to figure out if they are sincere or not. I have a feeling that panic is actually sincerely about respecting weezy, if it was tongue in cheek...it would be a lot more dry humor. The thing I like about Panic is that his type of humor makes people go " oh I get the joke!" about 10 minutes after it is said. |

He did call the women on this site "Macbeth's witches", so it did contain his usual thinly veiled misogyny. So all in all, a pretty normal response for Panic.

If there are two things I don't do, it's 1) looking the innocent flower and 2) thinly veiling. |

*I want worldpeace*
We don't give karma for no reason!
I must say I am nether a person, who has a get a lot of karma, nor am I a person, who uses her full karmagiving-potential often...but
I would call our blue-moons around here our "popular high school students". They are around here A LOT (look at their star!), so they read and comment MANY threads, they give a lot of good advices, they make us laugh...so I don't see any harm when I karma something with "oh you made my day with your comment, you are truly right about that".
For me it's like padding a friends arm, while I bend over from laughing or saying "thank you" for a helpful advice (yes I karma helpful advices).
So please hug each other and be happy that we don't have a minuskarma button, we would kill each other ^^ |

Since things are quieting down a bit...
This whole giving karma just so certain people can reach a certain number or to beat each other is highly annoying and kind of distracting to other truly karma worthy posts.
Panic is on the brink of 5000 as well. Only 129 to go. To many of us, 129 karma is the work of a lifetime, but I'm sure we can all pay closer attention to his golden words for the next month and give him the 5000 for his birthday next month.
Of course, his post must be karma worthy. Not really hard to imagine from anyone who has such a high ratio. (more math, or is it maths?)
I still hope the 5000 mark will be notated by the "spinny moon" turning red, spitting stars, or developing rings, like Saturn. Remember when the speckled stars appeared? Perhaps it's time for another mile marker.
