I've been having problems with my tights turning gray. I often wear yoga pants over my tights to keep warm during rehearsals or to travel, etc, and the color transfers. Then when I oxycleaned them the gray parts stayed and the pink faded to white. Not pretty. Any suggestions for keeping my pink tights pink? 10 Replies to tights turning gray |

Do you machine or hand wash your tights? If machine washing, separate your washing into light loads (whites & pastels) and darks. This helps keep tights looking pink, rather than gray. |

I always wash with other pink stuff (I have plenty). I think the problem is stopping the black from getting on the tights to begin with... |

To salvage the tights that are already grey, the only thing I can think of is to try Biz and if that doesn't work try Chlorox. You've already tried an Oxygen bleach. With any luck they'll at least bleach white; then by tossing them into the wash with reds and pinks maybe you can make them pinker again. Or try a pink dye. |

Yes, a good excuse to buy something hot pink and brand-new. Throw 'em in the wash together! Worse comes to worst, you have pink and pinkish tie dyed tights. It would be awesome for Halloween. |

mine do that also! once you start over with new tights, you could try those tide color catching sheet that go in the wash. It's sposed to draw in and catch the running colors from your other clothes. But, even when I hand wash purely pink tights, they still wind up turning gray, and, getting more transparent. If I wear fleece pants, the fleece winds up sticking to them too. |

It also might have something to do with the water that you use to wash your tights. I know that where I live we have very hard water, so even though I wash them alone they first turn white after many washes, and then they turn grey after being washed for a year or so |

I think the problem is the the dye from whatever pants I am wearing rubs off on the tights... are there any good warmups that don't rub off (other than garbage bag pants?) |

Do you put your tights through the dryer? If they are still grey, I would just wash them again. Don't put your tights through the dryer, though. Any little stains will stay in. |

What about white or light pink legwarmers? I wear PINK crop leggings and I have never had the dye transfer from those, either. It might just be the brand. |
