Locked by Theresa (28613) on 2012-02-18 17:19:54 I'd imagine you've gotten this figured out by now, lol...
Last night I went to a party at a friend's house and we were all sitting outside next to a wood burning fire pit. I came home wreaking of smoke (obviously), showered/washed my hair twice, but my hair still smells horribly of smoke! I'm having major surgery tomorrow morning and I'd really prefer to not roll up to the hospital smelling this gross! Is there any magic trick to getting the smoke smell out of hair? I would try stuff that removes smells generally from most things - googling your question, I found baking soda, vinegar, vodka, lemon juice, and apple cider vinegar. I feel like the vinegar might make you smell like a salad, but better than smoke I suppose. The lemon juice would probably lighten your hair a bit.
I don't have any personal experience using these things for hair but I have used vodka before to remove smells from clothes and it works quite well. |

Try a baking soda paste massage it well into the hair and scalp then rinse. Follow with apple cider vinegar, let it sit for 2-5 mins then rinse clean. |

^ I second Triskit's advice, that always works for me.
A simpler way that sometimes also works is mixing baking soda 1:1 with your shampoo. So, for really long hair like mine I do three tablespoons baking soda to three tablespoons shampoo. Give it two washes with the mix. Baking soda removes a lot of oil and all kinds a product residue from your hair so it will probably be very shiny and have that 'squeaky clean' feeling. Given that it can remove healthy oil as well as bad oil, condition afterwards. |
