Hello. Next week I start and adult tap and jazz class. I took dance for 14 years when I was younger and am Sooo excited to get started again. However, on a trip to London, I fell down a flight of stairs. I thankfully didn't break anything, but its EXTREMELY bruised, swollen and sore to the touch. I rally wanna get started again next week, but would I do further damage to it, or would it just be painful?

If you have any tips on the pain, swelling, or the like, or about whether or not I should wait or if it'd be okay, lemme know.

Ok, WHAT is bruised, swollen and sore? Because depending on what, you're going to get different answers.

If it's your foot, then yes, you're going to have to sit out next week. If it's your, say, shoulder, then you'll probably be fine, but play it by ear. If it's, let's say, your hand, then you're probably in the clear. So...what's swollen?

Does it hurt to walk? Because if walking hurts dancing will definitely hurt (if it hurts don't do it).

I would go ahead and dance, but take it easy. Take some pain reliever before class.

Go really careful if you do and take it easy. I had a similar injury with bruising and swollen knee and ankle and ended it making it worse but doing too much.

How are you going to dance without articulating through the ankle? Not to mention that pain is your body's way of saying stop!

Be sensible, see the doctor first, you do only get one body, if you mess it up there are no backups or replacements.

Phone up the studio and tell them what's happened, I'm sure they'll tell you to stay away until it's been checked out.

I sprained my ankle getting off a bus 6 weeks before a major competition. I was told 2 stay off it for at least 2-3 weeks before dancing again. I was very lucky that my ankle was full healed within 5 weeks.

I think you should go to see a doctor and get their opinion as if you dance on it you could really do yourself permanent damage. I also recommend that after seeing the doctor and you get the all clear to do plenty of exercises to help strengthen the area back up and to slowly ease back into dancing. I was very lucky it was only a slight sprain.

Im also lucky that after my major comp i haven't had any classes for 6 weeks so i have rested my ankle fully.

She said nothing about it being her ankle. What I got from the post her shin/calf area is bruised and sore. Knee to ankle = not the knee and not the ankle but everything in between.

If you have nothing more serious than bruises and soreness, then you're probably fine to do whatever. In fact, movement will help the healing process. But if you're seeing a doctor anyway, why don't just ask then?
