Has anyone had issues with Weissman's costumes? My ship dates keep getting pushed back. Customer service has not been helpful. I confirmed my ship date twice, only to see that it is pushed back again.

I love their costumes and their prices. However, I am not sure if I want to go through these headaches anymore. I have not used many other companies besides Weissman's. Can you tell me any company that is comparable to Weissmans in price (Many of Weissman's costumes are only $30!) and quality?

I placed an order from them that was supposed to ship Feb. 20th. I receieved half the order last week - Haven't had a chance to call them about the other half, but getting a little nervous about it hearing others are having problems. Can tell you if they don't come through as promised with the other half by feb 20th I will not be ordering from them again.

In reference to your other question- other affordable costume companies:
Revolution (raised alot of their prices this year - but still has a decent selection thats in the same weissmans price range)
Art stone
Liberts (super affordable - and fast shipping)

At the end of December right before we went on Christmas break. The first two boxes arrived on January 3rd or 4th I believe. I couldn't believe how fast it happened.

Were they all "In Stock" ones, or "Made-to-Order" as well?
My SO placed the order beginning of January, last year with all the issues and literally picking up the last two costumes on the day before the kids competed (good thing they didnt compete on the first day of the comp!)

All the ones we got in were in stock ones. Some of ours are backordered. Luckily, the ones that are backordered are all costumes for our recital which is not until the end of June.

Claudia Reed contacted me through this board about mine that arrived early - I guess they were in stock ones, I just didn't knwo they were in stock when I ordered them because they said made to order. But she assured me the rest was still scheduled to arrive on time. We'll wait and see if that happens, but at the moment I'm happy. It seems their customer service is amazingly better compared to last year.

We had several problems with costumes from Weissman's last year. We had a skirt sewed on backwards, gloves arrive with holes, and several costumes that came without their accessories. We were promised that things would improve this year and on good faith we have ordered from them again. We have received one shipment and so far everything was correct. The rest of our costumes are due to ship in March. I do hope all the problems they have had in the past have been corrected because their costumes are very affordable.

I think it's really unrealistic for costume companies to think that dance studios can have their spring recital orders in any earlier than Jan/Feb. Our teachers finalize their music & choreography by December then start browsing the 2 or 3 catalogs then we measure & order. The Recital is June 2nd and we won't have costumes until mid-May. Not much time to correct orders, get costume altered & take class pictures. Wish there was an affordable costume company that worked with the studios by planning to have enough fabric on-hand and enough seamstresses to fulfill their orders in a customer-friendly manner. But unless you have a studio seamstress and costume designer you're at their mercy.

I don't think it's unrealistic at all, all of my orders are ready in October or early November at the latest and sent off at the beginning of December.

Our first competition is in the middle of March, that's why I was so mad last year when it took the costumes until the day before our fist competition to arrive, that's three and a half months!

We haven't used Weissman's this year, I don't need that headache.

I agree I wish there was a way costumes could ship faster. I don't get my recital orders in until mid Feb. because I lots of students leave after Christmas season and lots join in january because of other activities, and that's just a fact of life around here. If I told the students they had to pay for spring costumes before Christmas and the ones that joined after couldn't get a costume I'd lose more then half my income probably.

But I will speak up for Weissmans - so happy with them this year. I ordered my competition costumes from them (Which I can order earlier) I got an e-mail last week the last of the order has shipped out alreay. Almost a month be it was scheduled to.

I feel the same way, and that's why I have ordered almost all of my recital costumes from ebay costume sellers. for the last 8 years. They are in stock and I can get them overnight, if necessary, and relatively cheap. In my situation, I have no other choice, as same as millysmommy stated above: "If I told the students they had to pay for spring costumes before Christmas and the ones that joined after couldn't get a costume I'd lose more then half my income."

Besides several large reliable ebayers who sell groups of last year's costumes from the major USA manufacturers, there are now Hong Kong based costume factories who are building a following on ebay too. Their tutus are soft and stretchy; they work well for the younger dancers, but are not sequined. And their prices are $20 on average, sometimes including quick shipping.

We had most of our costume payments in before January 1st. This year has been really good with parents paying. I have a few that I'm still waiting on, but offered a $5/ off per costume if paid in full before December 31st. Doesn't seem like much but it worked.

I've seen one studio factor that into their monthly tution, they call it all inclusive 'no extra fees or surprise charges" brilliant marketing tool.

I got all of my made to order costumes. My dancewear skirts for one of my classes was ordered in Feb and won't be in until the beginning of June.

Anyway have a great recital season.

I didn't have the same delays last year that many people seemed to with them. But they were about a week late. I chose not to order from them this year and went to the UDMA show to find some new companies. I am very pleased with the 4 I used this year, well minus one, but that was my own fault for not understanding how it worked. LOL!

Good luck with your weissman's order. They have great costumes and great prices. They're just not to reliable right now. I may go back once I hear all the kinks are worked out.

I also have had MANY issues with Weismanns dancer91584,
I first ordered recital costumes from them, and costumes that were "in stock" took more then 4 MONTHS to ship. Another time, we ended up having to order from pumpers to get a costume last min for competition ( a bit pricey but excellent customer service and organized, ALWAYS delivers on time-even shipped EARLY)because Weismanns costumes were no where to be found. We ordered fringe shorts from Weismanns and they took 5 months to get shipped! I called constantly and was given the run around, and was helped by some VERY rude airhead who made me feel like my order of 15 shorts was unimportant because "they are very busy at that time of year" and "it should be expected", and "to plan to order ahead of time because it was peak season". Outrageous! they have lost my business. We are a small studio of 150, and it just seemed like because order we placed was not a huge order, we got placed on the backburner and did not deserve top priority. I also called and was put on hold for over an hour! I put the phone on speaker because I was waiting for so long. I will never order from them again. I am shocked that they continue to have such poor customer service, and that they continually treat customers this way. There are many people that have this same experience. Its such a shame that although they have great prices, they lack orginaztion and never deliver as promised.

I think I will be going back to Curtain Call next year. Weissmans has been a headache for me as well more so last year than this year but the quality this year has been VERY POOR!!! Holes, rips, frays, ruffles sewn on oddly. I can't handle parents sending me emails griping about the quality when they pay a pretty penny. What a pain!!!

After all the issues we (and nearly everyone) had with them last year, they were placed on our "do not order from" list. Will never use them again

Had the same experience. When costumes "became backordered" we had to chose another costume, had to get it expedited through customs (i am in Canada), my financee had to take his motorcycle to Vancouver at 3:00 in the morning to pick up the costumes to get them back to the Okanagan for the recital that day! Letting them know when recital was didn't seem to matter to them!

at least i'm not the only one!!! We ordered 100 pair of tights, then ordered another 25. the order of 25 was shipped and recieved within 10 days, while we are still waiting (7 weeks now) for the others to ship. The 'expected ship date' is may 25th and our show is JUne 9th. WHAT?!! I called this week to see what the hold up was, and the lady (who was very nice) put it in to the supervisor because they are waiting on the other items to ship. IT was fixed, but very frustrating to hold a large order while waiting on a pair of shoes.
