About Ballet Long Island
BALLET LONG ISLAND was established as a non-profit arts organization in 1985. This woman-run company has made giant strides in fulfilling its goal of impacting on the artistic community. December 1985 marked our first NUTCRACKER season. Since then, sparkling performances and enthusiastic full audiences have marked this production held in our resident theater of Islip Town Hall West. Every year since 1985, a Spring Series of Performances have also been presented. This series includes not only classical works, but original and modern pieces choreographed by BALLET LONG ISLAND Artistic Director, Debra Punzi. Other well-known choreographers that have contributed to BALLET LONG ISLAND’s extensive repertoire are Svetlana Caton-Noble, Lyssa Milhaven, Tyr Throne, David Moreno, Robin Williams, Megan Doyle, Roman Correa, Mayuna Shimizu, and Maika Misumi. In 1986, we established a successful Arts in Education Program and Full Evening Concert Touring Program. We have performed in six states on the East Coast: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Maryland. In addition, BALLET LONG ISLAND presents exciting works by new choreographers in a performance each spring. On average, BALLET LONG ISLAND performs over 150 times a year. BALLET LONG ISLAND’s mission is to make dance available and affordable to everyone. “Ballet steps and pointework…, delivered with an attractive joie de vivre, are emblematic of the company style” according to Dance Magazine, September 1996. Newsday, March 1998 attests that “…a company’s true test is in how well minor parts are danced. The talented (dancers) showed that BALLET LONG ISLAND demands high standards across the board. Nothing could be nicer.” For more information visit - theballetcenter.org

Ballet Long Island presents this classic fairytale in ballet form. This is a fun ballet.

Once upon a time in the depth of winter, a queen gave birth to a little daughter, who was as white as snow. Because of this, she was called Snow White. But the queen died as her child was born.

After a year or so, the king married again. His new wife was a beautiful woman, but she was proud and arrogant. She could not bear to be surpassed in beauty by anyone. She had a wonderful, magic mirror. When she stood in front of it to look at herself, she would ask:

" Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?"
the mirror would reply: " My Lady Queen, you are the fairest one of all."

As years passed, Snow White, grew lovelier with every year. She was as beautiful as a bright clear day, more beautiful than the Queen herself was. But when the Queen questioned the magic mirror:
" Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?"
The mirror replied:
" My Lady Queen , of beauty rare, Snow White is a thousand times more fair."
This reply made the Queen very angry!!!
Snow White is a great way to introduce classical ballet and classical music to audiences.
