Fashion Dressing for an hourglass figure. en>fr fr>en By lux Comments: 870, member since Mon Jun 02, 2008On Thu Jan 19, 2012 07:45 PM
Hi, I'm Lux, and I'm sick to death of my wardrobe. I'm an Aussie size 10-12, which I believe is a US 6-8 (more on the 12/8 side post-holiday season!). I guess you would say I have a textbook hourglass figure- at last check, my bust and hip measurement were exactly the same.
I'm pretty well-versed with what suits my shape. My wardrobe is full of A-line skirts and dresses, scoop-neck tanks and tees, straight leg jeans and thick, waisted belts. You'll find next to no high-necked shirts, shift dresses, floaty tops, horizontal striped or super-skinny jeans.
However, I've found that I've ammassed a wardrobe that's quite, well... young. A lot of the places I shop where you can buy cheap, cute A-line dresses and skirts are targeted towards the late teen/very early 20s market. As such, I own a bunch of very short floral and polka-dotted skirts and dresses, which are adorable, but all a bit same-y after a while. On top of that, I almost ALWAYS rock the "plain cotton tank, coloured skirt" combo, and I REALLY need to mix that up a bit. Plus, at almost 23, I feel like I'm getting a bit old for such a little girl-y look.
I find it really difficult to buy items that are on-trend, as a lot of this season's stuff where I am has included either super-skinny straps, which make me look as broad as a barn, or shirts that flow from the bust, which make me look like I'm hiding a 6-month-in pregnancy! I'd love for my wardrobe to be a bit more mature, sophisticated and edgy, but I don't really know where to start!
On top of this, I'm about to start a stint of work placement, and I've realised I have virtually nothing in my wardrobe that is formal or even long enough to be appropriate. I'll be working in a fairly relaxed office in a creative industry, so I don't need actual corporate-wear, but I do need tolook professional.
In terms of where I'm able to shop, I'm in Australia, although I am happy to order online provided the shipping isn't exorbitant.
Over to you guys! |
